Erykah Badu Throws Shade at Beyoncé's Hat Game: 'Guess I'm the Ultimate Stylist'

Erykah Badu hints at Beyoncé copying her style with a big hat Badu, aged 52, shares a photo of Beyoncé wearing a wide-brim hat during her Renaissance show This raises speculation about Beyoncé's inspiration, sparking a fashion debate

Erykah Badu appears to believe that she served as an inspiration for one of Beyoncé's tour outfits. Posting on Instagram on July 30, the 52-year-old musician shared a photo of Beyoncé, 41, donning a wide-brimmed hat during her Renaissance show in East Rutherford, New Jersey on July 29. Badu captioned the photo with a simple "Hmm," before sharing a picture of herself wearing a similar accessory. In a seeming jab at Beyoncé, Badu wrote, "I suppose I am everyone's stylist."

Over the years, Badu has become renowned for her extravagant hats, both during performances and on red carpets. Similarly, Beyonce has also gained recognition for her stunning hats and attention-grabbing headpieces throughout her career. In the promotional imagery for her album Renaissance and its accompanying tour, Beyoncé confidently showcased a metallic cowboy hat while elegantly riding a silver horse.

"Hmm... I suppose I'm a stylist to everyone," she remarked.

Fans swiftly shut down Badu’s claims of copying on Twitter. One fan dismissed the allegations, stating, "This is a huge stretch." Another fan pointed out that artists like Beyoncé typically have a team of stylists who are responsible for putting together their looks, so any similarities or inspirations are rarely the artist's direct influence.

Beyoncé's Saturday show was a joyous occasion as it marked the one-year anniversary of her album Renaissance, which she released as a tribute to house music and the pioneers of the Black and queer community in the genre. During the concert at MetLife Stadium, Beyoncé was accompanied by her 11-year-old daughter Blue Ivy, who looked stunning in a sparkling orange sports jersey that perfectly matched her mother's outfit.

Performing together, the two artists delivered a stellar rendition of Beyoncé's popular song "My Power." Praise was given to Blue Ivy Carter, Beyoncé's daughter with husband Jay-Z, as she was acknowledged by the singer in front of the audience. Additionally, Beyoncé expressed her deep appreciation for her devoted fans, thanking them for their unwavering support over the span of her impressive 25-year career. She emphasized her gratitude for being able to continue pursuing her passion, attributing it to her dedicated fan base and their loyalty.

Beyoncé began her series of performances on May 10 in Stockholm. The North American portion of the tour will feature performances in Chicago, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, and her hometown of Houston. The tour will conclude in New Orleans on September 27.
