Beyoncé made a clear statement during her Renaissance World Tour in response to the sexual harassment allegations against Lizzo. In her performance on Tuesday, August 1 in Boston, the 41-year-old artist purposely omitted Lizzo's name while singing the song "Break My Soul (The Queens Remix)." While the names of other Black female entertainers such as Nina Simone, Kelly Rowland, and Lauryn Hill still appeared on the screen, Beyoncé replaced Lizzo's name with Erykah Badu's surname, repeating it four times.
A fan captured a clip of Beyoncé's performance, comparing it to Badu's recent comments about Beyoncé copying her signature black hat look. The fan humorously stated that by reiterating Badu and skipping Lizzo, Beyoncé is hitting two birds with one stone. Lizzo, on the other hand, shared a video of her emotional reaction to Beyoncé singing her name during a performance in Poland. In the caption, Lizzo reminisced about her childhood experiences, listening to Destiny's Child and being bullied.
She continued, "The image of Beyoncé entering the room where Tina Turner eagerly awaited their first meeting came to mind. It made me reflect on the impact we have on others and how interconnected and meaningful our existence is. It's truly an honor. Thank you, Beyoncé."
On the same day, Beyoncé subtly criticized Lizzo (real name Melissa Jefferson) amidst the news that Lizzo is being sued by three former dancers, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, for allegations including sexual harassment, religious harassment, disability discrimination, and creating a hostile work environment. The lawsuit also implicates Lizzo's tour company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc. (BGBT), and dance captain Shirlene Quigley.
According to court documents obtained on Tuesday, dancers alleged that Quigley made inappropriate comments about Davis' virginity and made the rest of the dance cast uncomfortable by simulating oral sex with a banana.
While competing on the reality competition series Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, Davis and Williams claim they were forced to take part in a nude photo shoot and were afraid they would be eliminated if they refused. Additionally, Lizzo invited her dancers to an outing in Amsterdam's Red Light District, and the group felt obligated to attend out of fear of losing their jobs.

"At Bananenbar, the situation quickly spiraled out of control. Lizzo started encouraging cast members to participate in inappropriate activities such as touching the nude performers, catching objects launched from the performers' bodies, and even eating bananas exhibited by the performers. In addition, Lizzo directed her attention towards Ms. Davis, pressuring her to touch the breasts of one of the nude women performing at the club."
Other accusations involve dancers not being allowed to seek additional employment during their breaks from touring. Furthermore, it is claimed that Davis was terminated after allegedly recording a dance team meeting, and Lizzo displayed aggressive behavior towards Rodriguez when confronted about the firings of Davis and Williams.
Lizzo and her management team's treatment of their performers appears to contradict Lizzo's public persona. Privately, she engages in weight-shaming and demeaning behavior towards her dancers, which is not only illegal but also incredibly demoralizing. Attorney Ron Zambrano expressed this concern in a statement on Tuesday. Lizzo has not made any public comments regarding the lawsuit.
