Prior to his relationship with Benedetto, Bennett was married to Patricia Beech from 1952 to 1971 and Sandra Grant from 1971 to 1979. It was in 1966 that Bennett and Benedetto initially met. In his 2016 memoir, "Just Getting Started," the singer recalled that Benedetto's parents, Marion and Dayl Crow, were devoted fans who attended one of his New York City concerts while Marion was pregnant with Susan.

Marion, as fate would have it, was pregnant during that time - with none other than Susan!" Bennett, who was 40 years old at the time, revealed in his book. "It's a photo that brings us all laughter, understanding the incredible chain of events that unfolded."

Having grown up listening to his music, Benedetto, who is 40 years younger than Bennett, finally crossed paths with him in 1985. She managed to charm her way backstage by being the president of his fan club, at the age of 19, where she got the opportunity to meet Bennett in person.

Their ultimate goal was to positively impact the lives of young individuals through arts education.

She exclaimed: "Following over ten years spent in New York City, during which we have provided assistance to the arts programs in 14 public high schools, ETA's growth now extends to three additional schools in Los Angeles this year - a fulfillment of yet another cherished aspiration."

Reflecting on her experiences, she shared with AARP in 2021 how challenging it can be when faced with moments of difficulty. Engaging in arguments with someone who doesn't grasp one's perspective is undoubtedly unenjoyable, yet she hesitates to extensively discuss this matter as she recognizes the privilege and fortune that accompany their particular diagnosis. Gratitude is expressed for being blessed with an exceptional team, with Danny managing Tony's business affairs and the ongoing support from outstanding doctors. Additionally, David provides invaluable assistance in terms of exercise, further contributing to their overall well-being.

The couple participated in an October interview with Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes, during which Benedetto provided more details about Bennett's struggles with Alzheimer's.

"Each day is different. Late at night or early in the morning, Tony is more alert, if I can use that term. So, I'll inform him, 'Tone, you're going to be featured on 60 Minutes.' He's like, 'Great,'" she expressed. "I mentioned, 'Do you remember that show, 60 Min–' and he responded, 'I do.' However, in any other moment, he doesn't know. Thankfully, he recognizes me, his children, and we feel fortunate in many ways. He's very kind. He is unaware that he has the condition."
