Emmanuel Adebayor's Epic Man City Celebration: Why Arsenal Fans Should Embrace the Past and Look Forward

Emmanuel Adebayor urges Arsenal fans to let go of his infamous 2009 celebration and shows support for Harry Kane's potential Ballon d'Or win at Bayern Munich Adebayor hopes fans can now find humor in the past and move forward

Emmanuel Adebayor, who currently resides in Togo, appears to have embraced a sense of tranquility since his retirement, according to his interview with We News.

Having concluded his professional football journey in March of this year, the renowned Arsenal and Tottenham striker had enjoyed a fruitful career, receiving notable recognition such as the African Footballer of the Year accolade in both 2007 and 2008.

However, despite playing the most games and scoring the most goals of his career for Arsenal, Adebayor's most iconic moment with the club is arguably his celebratory gesture against them while playing for Manchester City in 2009. Now that he has retired, the man known as 'Baby Kanu' prior to joining Arsenal is appealing to the fans to forgive the incident and reminisce about the positive experiences they had together.

Adebayor stated that people can disregard the incident in 2009 where he ran the entire field. He emphasized that no person would tolerate insults towards their family, particularly directed at their mother and father.

Adebayor received a £25,000 fine and a suspended two-match ban from the Football Association for running the entire length of the field to celebrate in front of Arsenal fans after scoring in the 80th minute.

The commission considered his acknowledgement of the offense, public apology, and the highly inflammatory nature of the abuse in making its decision, according to a statement from the FA.

However, the commission emphasized that players are obligated to behave appropriately and declared that such celebrations are not permissible as they could lead to a significant public disturbance.

Adebayor expressed, "I have put it in the past, and I hope they have as well. We all have a passion for football. Occasionally, when they witness that celebration on TV and social media, I hope they can now take it lightheartedly and move forward.

"That is my wish for the Arsenal fans, and I sincerely hope they have a successful year."

So what does Adebayor make of the current Arsenal side?

Adebayor said: "Last season we were all rooting for them to win the league and they came very close.

In January and February, I expressed my concern to my friends about the potential downfall of these boys. This situation reminded me of my playing days at Arsenal. We would start the season strong, ranking first or second, only to experience setbacks in February due to player injuries or suspensions. Unfortunately, those setbacks often resulted in losing our league position. Despite having a talented and youthful team, we lacked a prominent leader.

"When I noticed their points dropping, despite Manchester City trailing by several points, I expressed my concern. I don't know if there is a curse on the club, but it will undoubtedly be challenging for them to secure the league title.

"However, we need to consider their remarkable journey and achievements from last year. It was truly incredible. They secured a second-place finish and came agonizingly close to clinching the league title."

"With Declan Rice, they have bought some good players. They have actually invested to win the league and go far in the Champions League.

"It's my old club and I wish them the best of luck."

Adebayor's previous clubs, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Man City, currently dominate the top positions in the Premier League as the season enters an international break. Adebayor expresses his enjoyment in reminiscing about Man City's triumphant treble from last year.

"I am thrilled that Man City achieved the treble, especially since they are one of my former teams. Being involved in the project from the beginning makes their treble win feel like a personal accomplishment. It is truly remarkable."

Regarding Tottenham, considering Adebayor's familiarity with noteworthy transfers, he empathizes with Harry Kane's decision to join Bayern Munich during the summer.

Tottenham is a renowned club, but I believe it was the right moment for him to depart in search of a fresh test. This individual has consistently scored 30 to 40 goals per season, yet has not achieved any titles or victories.

Personally, I had an opportunity to secure a victory with Real Madrid. Despite participating in the Champions League final, the FA Cup final, and the Coupe De France final, triumph eluded me.

Bayern Munich is a club with an unwavering desire to win the Champions League every single year.

With an already noteworthy status in the Premier League, true legends are defined by their accolades and triumphs. Just take a glimpse at the remarkable number of goals this individual has netted - it would astonish you if someone claimed that he hasn't secured a single trophy.

He would likely feel regret, considering that he has the capability to achieve immense success. If he manages to score 30 goals, lead Bayern to victory in both the Bundesliga and Champions League, he would have a strong chance of winning the Ballon d'Or.

Now is the opportune moment for him to actively pursue trophies.
