Series co-creator and director of Mortal Kombat 1, Ed Boon, has hinted at the inclusion of more beloved ninja characters in the upcoming fighting game. Following the events of Mortal Kombat 11, Mortal Kombat 1 serves as a fresh start for the franchise, offering new origins for iconic Mortal Kombat characters. This exciting development was further showcased through gameplay demonstrations and trailers, highlighting the evolution of these characters.
The most recent trailer for Mortal Kombat 1 focused on the Lin Kuei, giving fans a glimpse of additional playable characters. The Lin Kuei is comprised of formidable ninja assassins who play a significant role in the series. Notable names associated with this faction include Sub-Zero, Cyrax, Sektor, Smoke, and Frost, all of whom have been confirmed as fighters or Kameo Assist characters in Mortal Kombat 1's roster. With the presence of these beloved ninja characters, fans are eagerly anticipating the possibility of having all of them in the game simultaneously.
Ed Boon responded to a tweet in which the original user expressed their excitement about the Lin Kuei-focused trailer. They mentioned that the trailer gave them hope about the possibility of seeing all the ninjas from Mortal Kombat 1, as shown in the attached image featuring Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Smoke, and Rain. While these four ninjas are confirmed to be in the game, Reptile and Ermac, also included in the image, have not yet been confirmed for Mortal Kombat 1. Boon, however, replied to the tweet saying it could potentially happen.
Although this response doesn't provide definitive proof that the extensive lineup of ninjas will appear in Mortal Kombat 1, fans were optimistic about the idea. Some fans replied to Boon's tweet requesting classic characters like Reptile and Ermac, as well as suggesting Noob Saibot as a potential returning ninja for Mortal Kombat 1. There were also inquiries about the inclusion of female ninjas in the game.
The Lin Kuei trailer specifically highlighted the challenges that would test the unity of these skilled ninjas. Sub-Zero and Scorpion, accompanied by the beloved Smoke, set out on a mission to confront Rain. Speculation circulates about the inclusion of Reptile and Ermac in the lineup, but fans must remain patient to discover the true intentions behind Boon's statement. Mark your calendars for the release of Mortal Kombat 1 on September 19, 2023, available on PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S.
