Doja Cat is asking her fans to refrain from making negative comments about her hair.
After the 28-year-old singer revealed her new single, "Masc," along with its artwork on Instagram on Saturday, March 30, she faced harsh and hurtful criticism about her natural curls. The post showcased a close-up shot of her blonde locks.
That same day, she went on Instagram to address the criticism she received. She called out the trolls who made hurtful comments about her hair, comparing it to "carpet" and "sheep's wool."
Doja explained that her hair is categorized as 4C, referring to her tight textured coils in the Black community. She expressed her frustration with people asking if her hair is like pubic hair, carpet, or sheep's wool. Some even compared it to sheep, pubic hair, and popcorn. She urged everyone to move forward, grow, and stop making hurtful comments. She emphasized the importance of respect and kindness in the comments section.
Doja has always been open about her love-hate relationship with her hair. In August 2022, she faced backlash for shaving her head. Doja explained that it was because she found it difficult to manage her hair over the years.

Doja shared with her followers on Instagram Live that she was never meant to have hair. She expressed her dislike for having hair, mentioning that she has never found it cool throughout her life.
Doja revealed that her long hair was getting in the way of her workouts. Her wigs would slide and peel off due to sweat, making it hard for her to focus on exercising. As a result, she was more worried about her appearance and hair rather than working out.
She decided to do a big chop to solve this problem. By cutting her hair short, she would be able to enjoy fitness without any distractions. Additionally, the big chop would give her the freedom to change her hairstyle whenever she felt like it.
“If I wanna do a buzz cut color, I can do any color without actually doing it to my own head … I can do a buzz cut wig. Either way, it’s much easier all around,” she shared.
