Genshin Impact's future is set to be even more captivating with the introduction of new regions Get ready for the breathtaking lands of Natlan, the icy wonders of Snezhnaya, and the mysterious realms of Khaenri'ah and Celestia Stay tuned for an epic journey beyond your wildest imagination!

miHoYo not only announced the Sumeru update for Genshin Impact, but also unveiled the roadmap for the upcoming regions in Teyvat. While details about the seven nations and their elemental affiliations were initially disclosed at the game's release, miHoYo has now provided a concrete timeline for the remaining regions.

Currently, there are five playable nations in Genshin Impact: Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, Sumeru, and Fontaine. miHoYo has set a goal to release all seven regions within the next few years, indicating a one-region-per-year release schedule. Natlan is expected to be released in 2024, followed by Snezhnaya in 2025. Although there are speculations and quest hints suggesting the inclusion of regions beyond the major nations, such as Khaenri'ah, no official confirmation has been made yet.

As of October 16, 2022, Michael Christopher has updated this post to reflect the latest developments. The release of Fontaine has resulted in only two major Archon-ruled nations remaining: Natlan and Snezhnaya. To provide accurate information, this post has been revised accordingly, removing Fontaine and including new details about the remaining regions.

Caution: potential spoilers ahead.

Natlan

In Teyvat, the nation of Natlan reveres the God of War, who also serves as the Pyro Archon. The identity of the current Pyro Archon remains uncertain. While Murata is mentioned as a Pyro Archon, it is unclear if she is the original or a successor, and it is also unknown if she is a former or current Archon.

Of the original Seven, only Venti and Zhongli remain, indicating that there have been at least two Pyro Archons. However, the mention of Murata only occurs in a section of the manga set 1,000 years ago, leaving uncertainty about her status as the Archon at that time. Additionally, it is not revealed how many Pyro Archons have existed in the past millennium, if any. The manga does mention that those descended from Murata, known as the "Children of Murata," possess robust bodies and fiery red hair. However, contemporary tribes such as Vennessa's have lost their connection to their god and their history after leaving Natlan, with only their combat skills being passed down.

In the game, Natlan remains a enigmatic nation with no presence of NPCs. The country's affairs remain unmentioned and the limited characters who have broached the topic are not forthcoming with details.

Natlan is on the other side of Sumeru's Great Red Sand (Augustus Lovelace)

The nation is made up of different tribes who follow different rules (Lectoure)

People in Natlan practice shadowboxing (Shousen)

The volcanic activity of Natlan creates natural hotsprings (Aikawa Susumu and Mikawa Akane)

Natlan, both in name and climate, is known as a country of passionate energy. In the Fontaine arc, a new weapon called the Talking Stick is introduced, shedding light on Natlan's rich history. This weapon focuses on the captivating tale of a person named Tenoch, who gathers warriors from the six major tribes to combat a looming threat known as the "turbid black tide." While many might assume this threat refers to the Cataclysm, the timeline suggests otherwise. According to the description of the Talking Stick, the Mare Jivari was created after Tenoch's story unfolded, yet the Wanderer's Troupe visited the Mare Jivari over 1,000 years ago. Therefore, Tenoch's story predates the Cataclysm by more than 1,000 years, with the catastrophic event itself occurring around 500 years ago.

In the Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview, Dainsleif provides some insights about Natlan and the Pyro Archon. He mentions that the limited information we currently have on Natlan stems from this source. The main character featured in this region will be Iansan, and Natlan draws inspiration from the ancient Mesoamerican civilizations. It is anticipated that Natlan will be released in 2024, following the release of Fontaine.

"The mysteries of war are intricately forged within the depths of creation: those who claim triumph shall radiate like a blazing inferno, while those defeated shall crumble to mere ashes. The divine impartation of this enigma to the wandering Traveler transpires due to the deity's undisclosed motives."

Snezhnaya

While Snezhnaya is the last region to be introduced in Genshin Impact, it has received more extensive coverage compared to other regions due to its significant role in the main storyline.

Snezhnaya is a nation known for its devotion to the Cryo Archon, The Tsaritsa. According to Dainsleif, she is described as a deity who has lost all love for her people. The Fatui, a powerful military force, operates under the authority of the Tsaritsa, with the Eleven Harbingers serving as their leaders. Technologically advanced and considered the strongest military power in Teyvat, Snezhnaya stands apart from other regions.

Snezhnaya is characterized by harsh winter storms, resembling the Soviet Union. Childe has warned that people can freeze to death without constant movement. Given the Fatui's status as major antagonists in Genshin Impact, it is fitting that Snezhnaya will be the final region to be introduced. The original preview trailer hinted at the appearance of Harbinger Pulcinella, the individual responsible for recruiting Childe into the organization. Several story characters the player has already encountered serve as diplomats for the Fatui, hailing from Snezhnaya. These include Scaramouche, Il Dottore, Tartaglia/Childe, Arlecchino, and La Signora. It is highly likely that they will also play significant roles in the story once players venture into the region, possibly in 2025.

Just prior to the release of Sumeru, a recent trailer unveiled the remaining unrevealed Harbingers. La Signora, one of the Harbingers, met her demise in the Inazuma arc, prompting the remaining members, excluding Scaramouche (and potentially an unidentified member at rank #10), to gather for her funeral. This marked the first glimpse for fans into many of the members, with tidbits of information divulged about their appearances and personalities.

Fresh details concerning the Harbingers suggest the existence of an unknown member. For years, it has been common knowledge that there are Eleven Fatui Harbingers. However, new information now indicates that Pierro holds the title of "founder" rather than a regular member, making him #0 instead of #1. Given Childe's dialogue regarding Il Capitano, who is presumed to be the actual #1, it implies the presence of either an undiscovered individual at #10 or an unoccupied position. Liyue Archon Quest

Regarding the Tsaritsa, our knowledge about her is limited as there is only fragmented information from various sources. She is not the original Cryo Archon, as Zhongli and Venti are the sole founding members of the Seven. Nonetheless, during the Cataclysm 500 years ago, she assumed the role of the Cryo Archon after undergoing significant changes brought about by the events during that time. Since then, she has embarked on a mission through the Harbingers to acquire the Gnoses from the other six members of the Seven. At present, the Harbingers have managed to secure four Gnoses: Venti's, Zhongli's, Raiden Shogun's, and Nahida's. Alongside the Tsaritsa's own Gnosis, this brings the total to five out of seven Gnoses in the possession of the Harbingers/the Tsaritsa. The reason behind the Cryo Archon's pursuit of the Gnoses remains unknown.

The Tsaritsa possesses the ability to bestow Delusions upon her followers, which function similarly to Visions but gradually deplete the life force of those who wield them. It is speculated that all of the Harbingers possess a Delusion, and it is also theoretically possible that all elite Fatui adversaries encountered by the player carry one as well.

The true nature of the Tsaritsa's ultimate ideal remains unknown, although many speculate that it may have been or currently is "love," based on subtle clues within the game's narrative. During the Downtown section of the Liyue Archon Quest, Zhongli briefly mentions certain characteristics about each member of the Seven, but when it comes to the Tsaritsa, he hesitates and provides little information. This could potentially suggest that her ideal has undergone a significant shift following the Cataclysm and subsequent changes in her personality.

Tartaglia's description of the Tsaritsa goes as follows:

The Tsaritsa, Her Royal Highness, is indeed a kind-hearted individual. However, her gentleness compelled her to toughen up. Furthermore, she initiated a war against the entire world solely due to her yearning for peace. As a result of this conflict, I had the opportunity to get to know you.

According to Dainsleif, the Tsaritsa and her intentions are described in the Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview:

The Tsaritsa has lost all affection for her people, and the feeling is mutual. Her devotees long to stand by her when she finally rebels against the divine entities.

Apologies... for burdening you with the sorrows of the world as well.

Since you could endure my bitter cold, you must have the desire to burn?

Then, burn away the old world for me.

In the region of Snezhnaya, there are frequent blizzards that can persist for a full month. Despite the inherent risks, the inhabitants of this area maintain a sense of gratitude for their existence, often gazing at the sky with a sense of contentment. (Nahida)

There are massive factories in Snezhnaya (Alice) and the country is militarily superior to other nations (Venti)

There is a festival called Krsnik Noc celebrated in Snezhnaya (Ivanovich)

The Adventurers' Guild originates from Snezhnaya but enjoys significantly more trust as an organization compared to the Fatui (Lan).

Zapolyarny Palace holds great significance as it serves as the seat of power for the Tsaritsa (Venti, during the Mondstadt Archon Quest).

Potential Other Regions

These regions are theorized to be playable areas in the future, but fans have received no absolute confirmation.

Khaenri'ah

Discover the Spectacular Unreleased Regions of Teyvat in Genshin Impact!

Khaenri'ah, the fallen nation, is a significant aspect of Genshin Impact's lore. It served as the initial destination for the twins upon their arrival in Teyvat. Around 500 years ago, "The Cataclysm" occurred, resulting in the destruction of Khaenri'ah by Celestia and the Archons. The inhabitants of the kingdom were transformed into the Abyss Order, the current group of monsters.

Dainsleif, a prominent character in the story, and Kaeya both hail from Khaenri'ah. Dainsleif, embittered by the downfall of his homeland, now wanders the continent, holding a deep resentment towards the Seven and Celestia. Although Khaenri'ah is identified as the connected location for the final story chapter, known as Chapter ??: The Dream Yet To Be Dreamed, the extent of players' exploration in Khaenri'ah remains uncertain. Nonetheless, it is expected to be included as one of the regions to be visited in the future, albeit not in the immediate future.

Celestia

Discover the Spectacular Unreleased Regions of Teyvat in Genshin Impact!

Celestia, the enigmatic floating island, holds immense significance in the game's narrative and plays a pivotal role in shaping the motivations of key characters. It is believed to be the dwelling place of the divine beings, encompassing both the Seven Archons and the higher gods of the celestial hierarchy.

The relationship between the Archons and Celestia appears intricate, as evident from Venti's and Zhongli's reluctance to discuss it, while Raiden Ei has completely severed ties with the island. Celestia is responsible for the downfall of Khaenri'ah and appears to have influenced numerous other historical events in Teyvat. The Gnoses, wielded by the Archons, are directly linked to Celestia. However, four known Archons have either relinquished or lost their Gnoses, with Ei and Zhongli displaying a nonchalant attitude towards this loss. Likewise, Venti hesitates to divulge detailed information about Celestia, offering only tidbits such as the tainted water and tasteless fruit.

Fan speculation indicates that Celestia is the presumed setting for the loading screen and the opening cutscene in Genshin Impact, featuring the twins battling the Sustainer of Heavenly Principles. The forthcoming years will likely provide further elaboration on Celestia's significance in the narrative, although it currently remains uncertain whether players will have the ability to explore this suspended island.
