Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall netted two goals to lead Leicester to a 2-1 comeback victory against Coventry upon their Championship comeback. Despite being down 1-0 due to Kyle McFadzean's headed goal in the 47th minute, the 2016 Premier League champions managed to secure a win at the King Power stadium.
Dewsbury-Hall equalized with 13 minutes remaining and then scored a decisive goal, giving Enzo Maresca a victorious start as Leicester City's new manager. Maresca, who was previously Pep Guardiola's assistant, achieved this feat in his debut match as a manager. Coventry, on the other hand, can find solace in their commendable performance. Despite losing in the playoff final last season due to penalties, their aspirations for promotion remain intact.
Leicester hit back to edge victory
Leicester's first-half performance was characterized by dominance, yet their creativity faltered, despite the pace and threat posed by their forward trio of Jamie Vardy, Stephy Mavididi, and Kasey McAteer. Among them, McAteer came closest to breaking the deadlock, as he unleashed a powerful strike that tested Ben Wilson's reflexes just before halftime, having swiftly ventured towards the opposing goal.Coventry demonstrated the essence of the Championship when, shortly after the start of the second half, captain McFadzean headed in Gustavo Hamer's skillfully curved corner at the near post. Leicester, under Maresca's adjustments, fought back and one of his substitutions, Dennis Praet, played a pivotal role in creating the equalizing goal. Praet's flawless cross set up Dewsbury-Hall who nodded in the equalizer with only 13 minutes remaining.
What's next?
Haji Wright, Coventry's substitute and newly signed player, came incredibly close to securing a victory for his team. He made a powerful run and unleashed a shot that deflected off the Leicester defense and struck the bar. However, it was the Foxes who ultimately claimed the win. A remarkable display by Dewsbury-Hall stole the spotlight as he skillfully combined with Mavididi and found the top corner with a masterful finish. Both teams will be back in action on Wednesday, August 9th, for the first round of the Carabao Cup. Leicester will be traveling to the Pirelli Stadium to face Burton at 8pm, in a match that will be broadcasted live on We Football. Meanwhile, Coventry will be taking on AFC Wimbledon at Plough Lane, with kick-off scheduled for 7.45pm.
