The Philadelphia Eagles are set to take on the Kansas City Chiefs next month — and one NFL star really doesn’t want Taylor Swift showing up.
Eagles cornerback Darius Slay jokingly pleaded with the Chiefs' newest fan to stay away from Arrowhead Stadium during the Super Bowl LVII rematch on November 20. Taking to social media on Wednesday, October 4, Slay humorously suggested that the fan, who seems to bring good luck to the team with their 2-0 record, might not want to miss any games this year. He also mentioned that the game against the Chiefs will be played at home for the Eagles.
Slay addressed Swift personally, advising her not to attend the game. He jokingly stated, "Taylor, it appears that you bring winning energy, so it might be best if you don't come to that game."
Slay is a teammate of Jason Kelce on the Eagles, which is Swift's hometown team. However, Swift has recently shown her loyalty to the Chiefs due to her relationship with Jason's brother, Travis Kelce.
Swift, 33, was initially connected to Travis, 34, after he disclosed on his podcast "New Heights" in July that he attempted to give her his phone number (using a friendship bracelet) at one of her Eras Tour stops in Missouri. Although they couldn't meet that night, the gesture didn't go unnoticed.
On September 24, Swift surprised NFL fans, including her own, by appearing at Travis' team's victory over the Chicago Bears on the Chiefs' home ground. Following the game, Travis commended Swift for her boldness in joining his friends and family in his VIP suite.
Everyone in the suite had nothing but praise for her, which I thought was amazing. She looked incredible, and to top it off, the day was perfect for Chiefs fans. As I mentioned on "New Heights" last month, we had planned everything out. The atmosphere was absolutely electric.
The focus on the pair's relationship continues, as Swift made another appearance when the Chiefs played the New York Jets on October 1st. Once again, she was accompanied by Travis and Jason's mom, Donna Kelce, and she also brought along some of her A-list friends, including Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, and Hugh Jackman.
Travis, who had previously accepted responsibility for drawing more attention to himself, admitted on Wednesday that he believes the NFL has taken it too far in terms of scrutinizing his personal life.
When discussing the matter on their podcast, Travis stated, "I enjoy seeing the crowd at the game. It adds to the overall atmosphere and enhances the viewing experience. However, I do believe they are going a bit too far, especially when it comes to my situation. It seems like they are trying to make it more entertaining."
The league has received criticism for its coverage, but it stated, "The Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce news has become a significant cultural moment where we have actively engaged in real-time, recognizing the fusion of sports and entertainment. We have witnessed a tremendous amount of enthusiasm surrounding the sport." This weekend, Travis and the Chiefs will travel to Minneapolis to face off against the Minnesota Vikings. Meanwhile, during the upcoming month, when his team goes head-to-head with the Eagles, Swift will be performing in South America as part of The Eras Tour's leg.
