Many players seem to have missed a Cyberpunk 2077 Death Stranding Easter egg. The reference to Hideo Kojima's latest game has recently resurfaced on social media as fans returned to the RPG to play the newly released Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty expansion and the game's preceding 2.0 update. Kojima Productions and CD Projekt Red collaborated in late 2020, which resulted in a crossover between Cyberpunk 2077 and Death Stranding. The partnership aimed to promote the PC port of Death Stranding, with the inclusion of several cosmetics inspired by Cyberpunk 2077. However, none of this content was made available for the original PS4 version.
CD Projekt Red added the BB pod from Death Stranding to Cyberpunk 2077, but many players didn't notice it initially. One of those players, Reddit user deddyduck_22, recently discovered the orange baby container in the game and shared their finding online. The discovery gained attention on the game's subreddit, with hundreds of players voting to bring it to the front page. This Easter egg had gone unnoticed by a portion of the fandom even years after its inclusion. The BB pod can be found in the downtown clinic that V breaks into during the game's The Hunt side quest.
In addition to the BB pod, the crossover also featured a cameo appearance by Hideo Kojima himself. In the beginning of The Heist mission, as V and Jackie enter Konpeki Plaza and pass the reception, players can find Kojima at one of the tables in the hotel bar next to the main elevator. He is engaged in conversation with a group of people.
Approaching the digital representation of the esteemed director in Cyberpunk 2077 will prompt him to inquire if the player has a pitch for him. However, this is the extent of the interaction with Kojima, referred to as Oshima in the game. Kojima's appearance in Cyberpunk 2077 follows his cameo in Nicolas Winding Refn's artistic neo-noir miniseries, Too Old To Die Young, which was created for Amazon Prime Video in 2019. Additionally, Kojima made a brief appearance in Refn's latest series, Copenhagen Cowboy, which premiered in January 2023.
Cyberpunk 2077 can be played on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
