Yellowstone was reportedly gearing up to introduce a hidden Dutton sibling in season 6, however, Cory Asbury maintains that the character was removed due to the show's cancellation.

"I was really excited about it and very disappointed when it was canceled," Asbury, 38, expressed to Taste of Country in an interview released on Tuesday, November 21. "So disappointed."

During a recent Q&A with the media, the Christian singer revealed his supposed plan to join the show as Kayce's long-lost brother and relocate to Montana for a year.

The singer of "Reckless Love" revealed that his wife, Anna, was supportive of moving for the project. "Anna approved and our kids were like, 'Okay, cool, we'll live in Montana,'" he said of his plans.

Asbury initially mentioned his part in the cowboy drama in July, informing via his Instagram Story that he "was invited to be in season 6 of Yellowstone but then they canceled it."

Paramount's announcement in May that season 5 would be the final season of Yellowstone thwarted his plans to move to Montana. Part 1 of the season concluded in January and the remaining episodes are set to air in November 2024.

The show, which first aired in 2018, revolves around the Dutton family led by John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) as they manage their Montana ranch. The series prominently features John's daughter Bethany (Kelly Reilly), sons Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Kayce (Luke Grimes), as well as actors Gil Birmingham, Cole Hauser, and Kelsey Asbille.

Yellowstone has a tradition of bringing in talented singers to join its cast. For instance, Grimes found success as a country artist after portraying Kayce for multiple seasons. In 2022, Lainey Wilson also made her acting debut on the show as Abby.

At the age of 31, Wilson appeared in part 1 of season 5 after striking up a friendship with Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan in 2018. "He featured a few of my songs in the show and then invited me to Vegas to perform at a horse-riding competition, where I got to meet him," she revealed exclusively to We magazine in April. "We became friends and, I had a feeling that would lead to something. I didn't expect it to mean I would be on the show."

The future of the "Heart Like a Truck" singer on the show was uncertain as production for season 5 paused in 2022 due to the drama between Costner, 68, and Sheridan, 53.

"I believe it's going to be amazing no matter what, because Taylor Sheridan can do no wrong, in my opinion," Wilson expressed to Entertainment Tonight in May. "But I am eagerly awaiting the call. I'm ready to go whenever they need me."

In the earlier part of the year, rumors began to circulate about a feud between Costner and Sheridan. In May, a source revealed to Us that there was tension among some writers and producers following the shooting of the first half of episodes. The insider clarified that Costner was not the cause of the delay and expressed his own disappointment over circumstances beyond his control.

However, due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, the premiere was delayed. Both strikes have since ended. We have contacted Paramount for comment on Asbury's casting claims.
