Season 1 has launched in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, featuring a new Zombies Act 4 mission and boss fight. While the mission itself is manageable, the boss fight can be tough. Here, we guide you through the best strategy to defeat the pesky worm with minimal stress.
The "Bad Signal" Act 4 story mission is indicated on your map at the beginning of the match. Before diving in, it's recommended to make some preparations and load into the match with as much gear as possible to save time. It's also advisable to attempt this with teammates rather than going solo.
The setup
For this, it is essential to utilize an operator equipped with a 3-plate vest and a self-revive. It is advisable to carry at least one ranged weapon such as an LMG or assault rifle with a substantial ammo count to maintain a safe distance from the boss. Additionally, having high rarity Aether tools and crystals for instant weapon upgrades is beneficial. Fill the remaining inventory slots with perks like Juggernog, Quick Revive, and Stamin-Up. Utilizing sentry guns or mortar strikes as killstreaks can also be advantageous. Tactical equipment such as decoys and monkey bombs can prove to be valuable.
Every team member should possess at least one fully Pack-a-Punched gun. Additionally, it is recommended for one person to spawn in with the RGL-80 launcher as their secondary weapon.
Complete a couple of contracts to earn enough money to purchase the necessary perks and gear. Bringing in extra equipment will reduce your setup time. Keep an eye out for turret circuits, they will be useful during a boss fight. Gather additional self-revives if available, as it's better to be over-prepared. When you're ready, go to the Bad Signal story mission marker on your map. Ensure that all players in your party are ready to start the mission.
Bad Signal mission and Gorm'gant boss fight
Enter the area and start the story mission that involves breaking four seals. While this initial phase is not overly challenging, you must complete it within a 30-minute time limit, so avoid getting sidetracked by fighting random enemies or searching for loot.
Break the seals
Head directly to one of the yellow objective markers and begin breaking the seals. Eliminate Zombies near the designated pillar for the quest. Continue this process until the meter is fully filled. Repeat this step for each of the four seals.
The following stage of the mission will guide you to an exit portal, but Gorm'gant will appear and block your path. If you have encountered the previous worm boss from Act 3, you will notice that this worm is significantly more hostile.
Be sure to remember the nearby ammo cache located on the beach near the cliffside, as you will probably need to restock later. Afterwards, promptly make your way back up the hill towards the road and the fortress. It is best to stay on the road or even further back unless you find yourself in need of ammo.
The worm is capable of fast attacks and will consume you if you get too near. If the worm does catch you, rapidly press the button for your parachute. The game does not provide a notification indicating that you can deploy your parachute here, but failure to do so will result in fall damage and death.
Encounter the formidable Gorm'gant worm boss
Deploy sentry guns along the road and engage the turret with any circuit mods you have gathered. Maneuvering through this challenging boss fight while keeping your distance by the road is crucial, but you can also gain a tactical advantage by retreating closer to the fortress for additional high ground.
Use decoys or monkeys to distract the zombies and shoot any floating purple orbs that come near you. Your main focus should be on attacking the worm itself, targeting the glowing purple weak spots. When the worm burrows into the ground, act quickly to prevent it from healing. Utilize the grenade launcher to force the worm back to the surface by shooting it at the beach where the worm burrows. Being swift with the launcher can significantly impact the duration of the fight.
Locked Diary mission reward
With these tips you should hopefully be able to take out Gorm'gant, and you'll want to collect the "Locked Diary" item from the reward rift.
Complete the mission and claim your reward. This will unlock an Easter egg quest, allowing you to use Dark Aether Rifts and access the latest powerful new schematics for this season.
