Caitlin Clark's boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, showed his support following the University of Iowa's unexpected loss in the NCAA women's basketball final.
McCaffery, 25, posted on his Instagram Story on Sunday, April 7, a picture of Clark, 22, leaving the court for the final time in her college basketball career, with the caption "My GOAT," which means "Greatest Of All Time."
Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes were defeated by the University of South Carolina Gamecocks 87-75 in the NCAA Championship game on Sunday. Despite the loss, Clark still managed to score the most points in the game, totaling 30 points. Her career total of points now stands at 3,951.
During a press conference following the game, Clark expressed her gratitude for the support she has received from fans, her ability to represent her home state, and the unwavering presence of her family at every game. She stated, “There’s not a single regret in my mind about how things played out. Even though I never secured a national championship, I will go to bed at night knowing I gave it my all.”
She continued: "I don't dwell on things that didn't happen. My mom taught me to stay positive, be proud of my achievements, and always strive for more."
In February, the Iowa Hawkeyes guard shared that she will be joining the WNBA Draft following the 2023-24 college season. (Rumors suggest that Clark is expected to be selected by the Indiana Fever in the upcoming draft.)
Clark, a senior in college, still has one more year of eligibility left thanks to the NCAA's "COVID year" extension for the 2020-21 season. Despite her impressive accomplishments leading Iowa to the National Championship Game in 2023 and breaking the women's college basketball scoring record, she is ready to move forward in her career.
