Chelsea's Transfer Blunder: Mason Mount and Kai Havertz Sales Slam Poor Business, Claims Paul Merson

Chelsea's Transfer Blunder: Mason Mount and Kai Havertz Sales Slam Poor Business, Claims Paul Merson

Paul Merson questions Chelsea's decision to let go of Mason Mount and Kai Havertz to rivals Man Utd and Arsenal He highlights the need for Chelsea to strengthen their squad and emphasizes the potential impact of Harry Kane in turning them into title contenders

Selling Mason Mount and Kai Havertz is not a wise decision by Chelsea. I fail to comprehend the reasoning behind it. It might be understandable if Chelsea needed to generate funds, but sacrificing a spot in the top four, which would result in further financial loss for the club, makes no sense.

Content: Manchester United and Arsenal are expected to be strong contenders for the top four in the upcoming season, alongside Chelsea. Therefore, it seems counterproductive to weaken your own team by selling two of your top players to direct rivals. While some Chelsea fans may argue that Mount and Havertz did not have outstanding seasons last year, it is undeniable that they are talented players who have the potential to greatly enhance any team they join.

I can comprehend if they were sold to Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, but not to two rival clubs who will compete for the same goals just for the sake of financial gain to fund acquisitions of untested young players.

Chelsea's approach seems like an attempt to assert complete control over football in the next five years, yet we are all aware of how quickly football dynamics evolve, and there is no assurance that these promising youngsters will become future superstars.

Mount treated unfairly at Chelsea?

Mason Mount has completed a medical ahead of his proposed £60m move to Man Utd

Content: As a player progressing through the ranks, the treatment is distinct from those who have been acquired. When an investment of £50m is made on a player, they are considered an asset and consequently receive special attention.

During my time at Middlesbrough, I was afforded a regal treatment. Every whim was catered to, to the extent that a tissue materialized promptly whenever I sneezed!

Mount may have questioned why he was receiving unequal treatment compared to his teammates and why he was not being compensated as well as them. It is important to note that he was the top performer on the team two years ago and even earned the Player of the Year award twice.

It is astonishing to think that only a single club expressed interest in signing Mount. He has showcased his abilities in the Premier League, and prior to his injury last season, he was a guaranteed starter for England. Additionally, he was the standout player in a strong Chelsea squad.

Havertz warning

: A true asset for Manchester United. If I were a fan, I would undoubtedly rejoice at this signing. The player exudes boundless energy, demonstrating impressive ball control and an innate ability to turn the game around. Their constant forward-thinking mindset sets them apart, making them an extraordinary and remarkable talent.

Arsenal would benefit greatly from the addition of Kai Havertz as he enhances their team.

One potential issue with Havertz is that he may encounter the same problem as Mesut Ozil did at Arsenal. In instances where things are not going well, Havertz might appear disinterested.

This is purely due to his playing style, as some players are naturally like that; it doesn't mean he lacks effort. When Havertz is in good form, he appears graceful and smooth, but if he's having a tough game, critics will claim he isn't putting in enough effort.

However, it's important to note that despite this flaw, he still enhances Arsenal.

'Chelsea crying out for signings'

Chelsea are crying out for a new goalkeeper. You need a goalkeeper who is going to win you points. Having one can half move you up the league quickly.

David De Gea receives criticism at Manchester United for losing points, but he also contributes significantly by saving more points than he costs.

Chelsea's midfield desperately needs additional support as most players have departed. Currently, they only have Enzo Fernandez and Conor Gallagher at the club. There are rumors of Moises Caicedo's potential arrival, but overall, they only have three potential midfielders.

As we sit here today, if Mauricio Pochettino gets Chelsea into the top four having only signed Caicedo, you would say he pulled up trees.

'Kane turns Chelsea into title contenders'

Chelsea requires both midfielders and a center-forward. Harry Kane is the sole player who can elevate Chelsea to a higher standard. He has the potential to lead Chelsea in the pursuit of the league title once again. Acquiring Kane would significantly impact Chelsea's performance, and it would be surprising if they fail to secure a top-four position.

I can't fathom the idea of Kane joining Bayern Munich. After coming so close to Alan Shearer's Premier League scoring record, just 48 goals away, it's hard to understand why he would leave and assist Bayern in securing their 97th consecutive Bundesliga title. What could possibly be the motivation behind such a move?

Content:

Paul Merson scored an impressive 30 goals in the league for Tottenham last season, solely relying on his own abilities as his teammates didn't contribute much. Considering that James Maddison has now joined Spurs, I can only imagine the astronomical number of goals he will achieve if he remains with the team next season.

I can't fathom Kane joining Bayern Munich. Why would he come so close to Alan Shearer's Premier League scoring record, just to leave for Bayern and help them secure their 97th consecutive Bundesliga title? Why go? What's the purpose?
