Charles Spencer, brother of Princess Diana, recently shared his thoughts on the rumors about Kate Middleton's location. In a preview for his upcoming interview with the BBC on Sunday, March 17, Spencer, 59, expressed his concerns about the truth being distorted.
Kate, the wife of Prince William and Spencer's nephew, has been a hot topic on the internet since the beginning of the year. In January, Kensington Palace confirmed that the 42-year-old had a planned abdominal surgery, which was successful. She has been recovering at home and was recently seen in some blurry photos.
There has been speculation about Kate's whereabouts, with some royal watchers thinking that the photos of her in a car in March were edited. However, Kensington Palace stated that she would not be seen in public until after Easter.
Spencer was asked during his Sunday interview about how the current level of online conspiracy compared to the press intrusion surrounding his sister Diana's death. Diana tragically passed away in a car crash in Paris in August 1997 at the age of 36, after being pursued by photographers into a tunnel.
Reflecting on the past, Spencer shared with the BBC that he believed the situation was more perilous back in 1997. He mentioned that the circumstances of Diana's death were so shocking that it forced the industry supporting paparazzi to reevaluate their actions. It wasn't necessarily due to a moral judgment, but rather because the behavior had become unacceptable.

Spencer, along with William, aged 41, and his younger brother, Prince Harry, have all openly discussed Diana's death and criticized the media's alleged role in the incident.
In an episode of his Harry & Meghan Netflix docuseries released in December 2022, Harry, aged 39, shared, "My mum faced harassment throughout her life with my dad, but it intensified after their separation. I witnessed and experienced things that opened my eyes. I learned a lot." He also mentioned, "I saw the pain and suffering of women who married into this institution. I remember thinking, 'How can I ever find someone willing and able to handle all the challenges that come with being with me?'"
Kate is now the Princess of Wales, a title that was previously held by Diana upon her marriage to King Charles III.
Neither Kensington Palace nor Kate specifically addressed the theories about her whereabouts. However, on March 10, while celebrating the U.K.’s Mother’s Day, Kate posted a social media picture with her and William’s three kids. Some news outlets removed the image from their sites after claims that it had been altered by the source.
Kate has confessed to altering the image.
In a statement she made in March, she mentioned, "As someone who enjoys photography as a hobby, I sometimes like to try out different editing techniques. I want to apologize for any misunderstanding that may have arisen from the altered family photo we posted yesterday. I hope all the mothers out there had a wonderful Mother's Day celebration."
