Chance the Rapper and his wife Kirsten Corley have decided to get divorced after being married for five years. In a joint statement shared on Instagram on Wednesday, April 3, the couple announced that they have mutually agreed to separate. They expressed gratitude for the time they spent together and stated that the decision was made amicably.
The musician, also known as Chancelor Johnathan Bennett, and his estranged wife, both 30 years old, mentioned that they have been blessed with two lovely daughters that they will co-parent together.
They concluded their statement by kindly requesting fans to give them privacy and respect as they go through this period of transition.
Chance and Corley have been friends since they were children. Chance first met Corley at the age of 9 in 2003 during one of his mom's work parties.
In a series of tweets in March 2019, Chance shared a memory of seeing Corley for the first time. He described her as the prettiest girl he had ever seen at that time, when she and her friends performed a Destiny's Child song.
Chance couldn't help but admire the way she and her friends effortlessly nailed the choreography and lip-syncing, surpassing even the most seasoned performers. He couldn't look away from her captivating presence.

The Voice coach proposed in July 2018, and we were the first to announce that they got married in March 2019 at the Pelican Hill Resort in Newport Beach, California.
"It was a lovely ceremony," a source shared with Us back then. They mentioned how guests had a great time at the reception, especially at the photo booth. Celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were also present.
Later on, it was revealed that Chance and Corley actually got their marriage certificate in December 2018 through a civil ceremony in Chicago. They decided to wait until the next spring for their official wedding.
Five months after their star-studded celebration, the pair welcomed their second daughter.
Chance has previously publicly praised his wife and daughters while growing his own career.
Chance expressed his appreciation for his oldest and best friend, Corley, on her birthday via Instagram in May 2018. He credited her for bringing wonderful things into his life and thanked God for bringing them together. Chance also shared his joy of being a girl dad on "Today With Hoda and Jenna" in February, mentioning how it feels good when his daughters get excited to see him.
Chance shared that he finds joy in assisting his daughters with educational activities. "I enjoy engaging in learning activities with them, such as science experiments and museum visits," he mentioned.
