Anderson .Paak filed for divorce from his wife Jaylyn Chang on January 12, ending their 13-year marriage. The Silk Sonic musician, known as Brandon Paak Anderson, stated "irreconcilable differences" as the cause of their breakup in court documents obtained by We. Chang, also known as Jae Lin Chang or legally Heyyoun Chang, was his spouse.

Paak and Chang have two sons together, Soul Rasheed, age 13, and Shine Tariq, age 6. Paak is seeking shared legal and physical custody of their children and is also requesting that the court not award either of them spousal support.

Paak did not disclose the date of his separation, but documents show that he and his spouse got married on November 23, 2010. The musician has maintained a private stance and did not clarify reports that he got married in 2011.

This is Paak's second marriage. In a July 2016 interview with The Breakfast Club, the performer mentioned that he was previously married at the age of 21 for two years. He referred to Chang as the "only wife that matters".

Paak shared that Chang had immigrated from Korea without any knowledge of English, and they crossed paths at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood. Prior to achieving success as a musician, he was recruited as a band member for a gospel class, where he first encountered Chang.

"Obtaining things like my family, wife, and son have all been a result of my love for music," Paak explained on The Breakfast Club. He also mentioned that when he achieved financial success, he celebrated by gifting Chang a Chanel bag.

Chang is also the reason Paak has learned more about his Korean heritage, he told Hypebeast in an April 2023 interview.

Paak shared, "My mom is half Black and half Korean, so that makes me a quarter Korean. I never really delved into my Korean culture until I married my wife, who is fully Korean. Now, my kids primarily identify as Korean. Raising biracial children involves navigating both sides of their heritage and teaching them about both."

In Paak's March 2021 interview with Esquire, Chang was referred to as a vocalist in a gospel rock band. Paak also mentioned that they are raising their children in a bilingual environment, where they speak both Korean and English.
