Group proceedings, similar to US class actions, were introduced into Scottish law in 2020. This allows groups of two or more individuals with identical or similar claims to collectively file a lawsuit in the Court of Session.

In recent years, numerous prominent figures within the boys club have been imprisoned for cases of sexual abuse. The club has previously expressed its condemnation of any form of historical abuse.

The upcoming hearing in October is now set to be adjourned.

Thompsons Solicitors are delighted to announce that Celtic Plc has expressed their intention to engage in settlement discussions regarding the Celtic Group Proceedings Litigation. This legal action pertains to instances of past abuse at Celtic Boys Club involving James Torbett and Frank Cairney, who have been convicted as paedophiles.

Celtic Plc has not officially accepted responsibility or made any other official concessions. However, they have expressed their willingness to engage in negotiations in order to explore the potential for a settlement in this legal matter.

Consequently, all parties involved will request the Court to postpone the upcoming trial in order to assess and determine the value of each individual case.
