Carnie Wilson's Creative Approach to Temptations: Indulging in Cake but Not the Calories

Discover how Carnie Wilson successfully sheds pounds by taking a unique twist on dieting. Learn how she navigates the challenges of gluten and sugar temptations with a clever strategy that keeps her on track to a healthier lifestyle.

Carnie Wilson has lost 40 pounds by cutting sugar and gluten from her diet.

It’s not an easy lifestyle change by any means, and Wilson, 55, admits there are still times when she’s tempted.

While discussing her new cooking show, "Sounds Delicious With Carnie Wilson," she exclusively told We that she has learned how to work around her cravings. For example, if there's a cake she wants to try, she takes a bite, chews it, and then spits it out instead of swallowing. She admitted that this may sound gross and weird, but it's her way of indulging without overeating.

Carnie, who is the daughter of Beach Boys cofounder Brian Wilson, doesn't think this unconventional method of satisfying her cravings will lead to unhealthy habits. She compared it to how she abstains from drinking, showing that she has found ways to enjoy food without overindulging.

"I see it as similar to alcohol," she explained. "I choose not to indulge in it. For as long as I can remember, I have avoided sugar and gluten, and I find that I feel better physically by doing so. That's my approach to this."

Carnie shared that adapting to the change was difficult at first, describing it as "really tough in the beginning." However, she mentioned that it has become second nature to her now and she feels much better.

It definitely requires self-control to chew and spit out cake without giving in to the temptation of indulging in the sugary treat. Having some delicious healthier alternatives can make it easier to resist.

In her latest show, Sounds Delicious With Carnie Wilson, she teams up with celebrity guests to cook a different dish every week. In a particular episode, she prepares gluten-free Mediterranean chicken with Lisa Loeb.

"I used gluten-free flour and it tasted amazing," she shared. "I really enjoyed eating it. Some people can handle sugar and gluten in small amounts, but I've learned that I can't. And that's perfectly fine. I indulge in plenty of guacamole and chips, corn tortillas, rice, and potatoes. I'm content with my choices."

Carnie's focus on a new lifestyle led to significant weight loss, although that wasn't her main objective.

"I felt really unwell," she explained. "I had a lot of pain in my stomach, felt bloated and just overall uncomfortable. I woke up every day feeling like everything hurt."

Her doctors informed her that she was at risk of developing diabetes, which made her think about her two daughters, Lola, 18, and Luci, 14.

"I believed that my daughters deserve to have a healthier me, and I deserve to feel better," she explained.

Sounds Delicious With Carnie Wilson will debut on AXS TV on Tuesday, April 16 at 8:30 p.m. ET. The first guest on the show will be Mark McGrath from Sugar Ray.
