Following the Kansas City Chiefs' loss to the Buffalo Bills, Brittany Mahomes took to Instagram to troll NFL referees after her husband, Patrick Mahomes, had a post-game meltdown. In a story video, she sarcastically captioned a referee on the field as "MVP" after a penalty reversed a touchdown scored by the Chiefs' wide receiver Kadarius Toney in the final minutes of the game. The Bills ultimately won the game 20-17. Brittany, 28, shared her reaction on Sunday, December 10.
Following the game, 28-year-old Patrick displayed an unusual level of intensity, slamming his helmet down on the sidelines after the Chiefs' second consecutive loss. At one point, it appeared that his teammates and coaches were attempting to hold him back as he seemed to angrily confront officials.
"It's hard to accept," Patrick told reporters after the game. "Not just for me, but for football in general, to have greatness like that taken away. For someone like Travis [Kelce] to make a play like that, you want to see the players on the field determine the outcome. They're human. They make mistakes. There wasn't a warning the whole game. And then to make a call like that in the final minute? Another game and we're talking about the referees. It's not what we want for the NFL. It's not what we want for football."

In the fourth quarter, the Chiefs were behind the Bills when Mahomes passed the ball to Kelce, who then passed it to Toney, 24. The receiver appeared to score a game-winning touchdown, but the play was overturned after Toney was penalized for lining up offsides. (Although offensive offsides has not been a frequent penalty in the past, the NFL mentioned during Sunday’s broadcast that it has been called 11 times this season.)
Chiefs coach Andy Reid expressed his dissatisfaction with the call, mentioning that he should have been informed about Toney’s position before the play began. “It was an intense football game right up to the end,” he stated. “I’m very disappointed with how it ended. I don’t usually make excuses, but in a big game like this, I usually receive a warning before something of that nature occurs. It’s a bit embarrassing for something like that to happen in the National Football League.”

Kelce did not offer a comment after the game, but he was observed leaving Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium with his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, looking downcast.
Last month, Swift, 33, expressed no regret for attending Chiefs games, despite some NFL fans being upset by her presence and claiming she takes up too much screen time.

In her TIME Person of the Year cover story published on December 6, she expressed uncertainty about how the camera knows which suite she's in and when she's being broadcast, stating, "I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once." She clarified that her main focus is supporting Travis and she has no awareness of how her presence on the screen may be received by viewers. She also mentioned her newfound interest in the NFL, commenting, "Football is awesome, it turns out. I’ve been missing out my whole life."
