Newly surfaced evidence suggests that PlayStation Trophies could be making their way to PC, representing a significant milestone in the ongoing development of Sony's PlayStation PC label. In the summer of 2020, Sony began bringing its first-party titles to PC, starting with Guerrilla Games' Horizon Zero Dawn's release on Steam. As part of its efforts to expand in the PC market, Sony acquired Nixxes a year later and introduced the PlayStation PC label to categorize these PC releases.
The company is exploring ways to align its PC ports more closely with its console originals by introducing PlayStation PC Trophies. This information comes from TrueTrophies, a third-party tracker that recently discovered data on a new PlayStation Trophy platform referred to as "PSPC." Since Sony's PC ports already feature achievements on platforms like Steam and the Epic Games Store, this newly discovered feature could potentially indicate cross-platform compatibility for unlocking these achievements through the PlayStation Network. Another possibility, although less likely, is that the PSPC designation suggests the potential launch of a dedicated store for PlayStation PC games by Sony in the future.
The platform reference that has recently come to light is not linked to any specific title, making it unclear which PC ports could potentially benefit from PlayStation Trophy support in the future. However, it is believed that this designation originates directly from Sony, since game developers do not have the ability to submit their own platform labels to the PlayStation Network. Additionally, the discovery of the PSPC moniker alongside a reference to the PS5, listed as part of a single "scanner platform," leads to speculation that these two achievement sets will be compatible with each other.
This is not the first sign of PSN Trophy support coming to Sony's PC ports. In August 2022, dataminers discovered evidence of PSN integration in the Steam version of Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered. While offering cross-platform achievements that overlap with those from Steam or Epic Games Store would be a new feature for Sony, it is not uncommon in the industry. Both Ubisoft and EA have offered similar functionality for years, allowing players to unlock achievements simultaneously across multiple launchers.
If PlayStation PC Trophies are indeed coming soon, it is probable that this feature will be implemented retrospectively for certain, if not all, of Sony's PC ports. There are currently numerous former PlayStation exclusives available to play on PC, and more are scheduled to be released in the near future. The upcoming release of Helldivers 2 on Steam on February 8, alongside its PS5 version, is an example of this. Additionally, Sony has confirmed that Horizon Forbidden West will also be arriving on Steam in 2024.
