Breaking News: Julian Nagelsmann Emerges as Germany FA's Prime Contender to Replace Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich

Germany FA eyes Julian Nagelsmann as top choice to replace Hansi Flick after a string of defeats since the World Cup exit, including a 4-1 loss to Japan Euro 2024 start date?

Julian Nagelsmann is one of the German national setup's top choices for the next head coach.

The 36-year-old is sporting director Rudi Voller's "dream solution", Sky Germany are reporting.

Voller stated this week that Nagelsmann is a "highly accomplished coach" as he gets ready to lead the team after the dismissal of Hansi Flick. At present, there has been no communication between the German national association and Nagelsmann.

Despite being replaced by Thomas Tuchel earlier this year, he is still technically under contract at Bayern Munich until 2026. However, Jurgen Klopp, the resounding fans' choice according to a Sky Germany poll, will not leave Liverpool mid-season. He also remains under contract at Anfield until 2026, thereby ruling out any possibility of a dual role.

Rudi Voller is currently serving as the interim manager for Germany, after previously holding the position from 2000 to 2004. Yesterday, former Fulham manager Felix Magath expressed his interest in the role, along with Matthias Sammer and Louis van Gaal who are also being considered as potential candidates from outside the team.

Flick faced dismissal on Sunday, a mere nine months prior to the commencement of the nation's domestic European Championships next summer, following a humiliating 4-1 defeat against Japan in a friendly match at home on Saturday.

Having suffered four defeats in their last five games, Germany's current predicament is exacerbated by their premature elimination in the group stage of the previous year's World Cup.

Voller, a member of the 1990 World Cup-winning West Germany squad and coach of the national team from 2000 to 2004, confirmed that he temporarily assumed responsibility for one match to assist the team until a new coach is appointed.

Flick was sacked by Germany on Sunday

"This is a one-time occurrence for me. I felt compelled to assist with this game," he mentioned during a press conference on Monday. "My objective is to provide support to the new coach, just like I did with Hansi Flick, but with hopes of achieving improved outcomes.

"I am aware of the circumstances and honestly, I did not have any intention of undertaking this responsibility. They had to persuade me."

Voller declined to comment on any potential candidates, stating that the German FA (DFB) would appoint a suitable coach before the upcoming friendlies against the United States on October 14 and Mexico four days later, during a brief visit to America.

"I am convinced that in three and a half weeks we will present a new coach."

"It is crucial to generate excitement without delay. This can be achieved through favorable outcomes and the presence of fresh personnel."

Voller emphasized that the team, led by Flick, continued to be burdened by the disappointment of their early World Cup elimination into the new year, which hindered their ability to regain their confidence. He stressed the significance of appointing a new coach who can bring about necessary changes and fresh ideas.

Since taking over from Joachim Low in August 2021, Flick has only managed to win 12 out of his 25 matches in charge. Prior to becoming head coach, Flick served as an assistant under Low from 2006 to 2014. At the Qatar World Cup, Germany faced disappointment as they failed to advance from Group E, suffering a loss to Japan, a draw with Spain, and a victory over Costa Rica. In the past year, Germany has only managed to defeat Oman and Peru, with no other notable wins.
