Tenoch Huerta has decided to step down from his role in Netflix's Fiesta en la Madriguera due to the sexual misconduct scandal surrounding him. In a statement to Entertainment Tonight on Thursday, June 22, the actor expressed his sadness but emphasized that he cannot let the actions of María Elena Ríos, who made false statements, harm him or the dedicated individuals working on the film.
Fiesta en la Madriguera, directed by Manolo Caro, is an upcoming film based on a screenplay by Nicolás Giacobone, known for his work on Birdman. The project was announced by Netflix in May and is set to premiere in 2024. The film is an adaptation of Juan Pablo Villalobos' novel, centered around a young boy named Tochtli who convinces his father, Yolcaut, to acquire a rare and endangered animal for their private zoo.
There has been no public statement from either Netflix or the film's crew regarding Huerta's departure. This development follows allegations of sexual assault made by musician Ríos, 31, several weeks ago. In a tweet on June 11, the saxophonist addressed the delay in speaking out, explaining that they needed time to process the situation. They also expressed fear that people would refuse to believe the accusations due to Huerta's status as a superhero, describing him as an abuser, manipulator, and sexual predator with knowledge of his own power.
Huerta strongly refuted the allegations made by Ríos, referring to them as false and completely baseless. In a statement given to We earlier this month, he expressed his determination to address and challenge the spreading rumors. Huerta clarified that he had been in a consensual and loving relationship with Elena for several months, which was affirmed by numerous witnesses. However, after their relationship ended, Elena began distorting their interactions, both privately and in the presence of their shared friends.
