Black Clover Reveals the Missing Element My Hero Academia's Ending Needed

Black Clover's powerful conclusion in My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising offers a compelling alternative to the original ending, showcasing how it could have elevated Deku's journey even further

My Hero Academia fans may already know that the original ending intended for the action-packed shonen series was instead incorporated into the movie, Heroes Rising. This decision was made by the mangaka, who believed that it would be a better fit. However, Black Clover is now showcasing a similar development that gives us a glimpse of what could have been.

In the finale of Heroes Rising, Deku transfers the power of One For All to Bakugo. During the transition, both characters briefly possess the power and use All Might's strength to overpower their enemy. Consequently, Bakugo becomes the new successor of One For All, while Deku returns to living without a quirk. In a revealing interview with Newtype magazine, Heroes Rising's director, Kenji Nagasaki, discloses that this was originally the planned conclusion for the manga. However, the mangaka, Horikoshi, had already devised a superior ending and graciously allowed the director to utilize this concept in the film.

Black Clover's My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising Ending Starts Sooner

In a similar fashion to My Hero Academia, Black Clover took a similar approach in its final arc, preceding its switch from Shonen Jump to Jump GIGA. Asta discovers that he can bestow others with Anti-Magic abilities, a crucial tactic against the series' main antagonist, Lucius Zogratis. Encouraged by his companions, Asta shares this power with the members of the Black Bulls. Unlike Heroes Rising, which only involved one recipient in the final moments of the battle, Black Clover's power transfer occurs before a major conflict and impacts the entirety of Class 1-A. This decision not only highlights the importance of the Black Bulls in the war but also allows for further development and exploration of the abilities Anti-Magic can enhance within each member. Similar to the growth experienced by certain Black Bulls, like Charmy's transformation, the potential for their magical powers to evolve is compelling and satisfying.

Black Clover Could Flip Deku's Situation In My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising

On a similar note, the presence of Anti-Magic within the Black Bulls carries grave implications that closely parallel Deku's experiences in Heroes Rising's conclusion. Just as Deku relinquishes One For All and loses his power in the process of passing it to Bakugo, Asta may potentially strip each member of the Black Bulls of their magical abilities when they receive his Anti-Magic. Such a turn of events would offer a bittersweet ending, reminiscent of the original intended conclusion for My Hero Academia. The Black Bulls were the first group of mages to accept Asta despite his lack of magic, and now their generosity could be repaid by forfeiting their own powers to aid him in the battle against Lucius. It would also be ironic, given that the Black Bulls' magical prowess has finally garnered recognition and respect after enduring years of mockery, only to have it taken away.

Furthermore, Asta is likely to harbor a sense of responsibility and guilt for playing a significant role in his friends' loss of magic. This sets him apart from Deku, whose decision primarily had negative consequences for himself. These recent developments in Black Clover serve as a testament to the potential impact that My Hero Academia's original ending could have had if Horikoshi had not altered his plans.

My Hero Academia is available through Viz Media and Black Clover is continuing in Jump GIGA.
