Beetlejuice 2 has finished filming after more than 35 years since the original movie was released in 1988, which was a huge success both critically and commercially.
The original film follows the recently deceased couple Adam (played by Alec Baldwin) and Barbara Maitland (played by Geena Davis) as they call upon the undead exorcist Betelgeuse (played by Michael Keaton) to drive away the family that moves into their home after their deaths. Director Tim Burton recently shared an update about the upcoming sequel on Instagram in November, stating, "Just finished shooting Beetlejuice [2]. Thank you to everyone involved."
Filming for the movie was put on hold during the SAG-AFTRA strike in July and resumed around four months later once the labor dispute was settled. In September, Burton mentioned to The Independent that Beetlejuice 2 only had "a day and a half" of filming left when the strike began. "We know what we need to do. It's almost complete," the director stated at the time.

During a conversation with The Wrap in August, cinematographer Haris Zambarloukos hinted at details about the sequel's storyline for Beetlejuice 2.
"Beetlejuice is fundamentally a family story," Zambarloukos commented. "Now, 30 years later, we're exploring the complexities and the essence of the human experience in maintaining a family for all that time, within the most surreal world imaginable. This is why I gravitate towards projects. The emotional ties to humanity are always my priority."

In 1990, Burton enlisted Jonathan Gems to pen a follow-up called Beetlejuice Goes Hawaiian. The plot centered on the Deetz family's move to Hawaii, where Charles Deetz (played by Jeffrey Jones) is overseeing the construction of a resort. The family eventually learns that Charles' company is developing on top of an ancient burial ground.
Warner Bros. confirmed in 2019 that the sequel had been shelved.
