In Act 1 of Baldur's Gate 3, players discover that Wyll is a Warlock serving the Archdevil Zariel through her servant Mizora. Despite entering this pact to save lives, Wyll doesn't necessarily enjoy it. Nonetheless, players have the chance to permanently sever this bond of service. This won't be a simple task and will come with sacrifices, but by the end of Baldur's Gate 3, Wyll can ultimately liberate himself from his fiendish responsibilities.
Mizora's Request
In Act 2, when players end the day for the first time, a projection of Mizora will appear and assign Wyll a quest. The forces of the Absolute have captured a valuable "asset" belonging to Zariel, and it is now Wyll's responsibility to infiltrate Moonrise Towers and rescue them. If Wyll declines or fails in this mission, his contract will bind him to Hell and transform him into a lemure, a low-ranking devil typically used as cannon fodder in the Blood War.
However, if the main character successfully passes an easy Perception check, they will notice Mizora's unusually desperate situation. This knowledge gives them the opportunity to demand more from her, as she is unable to refuse. Players can request the termination of Wyll's pact if they succeed in the rescue mission, although they will need to pass an Intimidation, History, or Performance check with a difficulty class of 14 to convince her. Mizora, however, insists on ending the pact only after the rescue, not before.
Where to Find Zariel's Asset
Players will not encounter the "asset" until they reach the Mind Flayer Colony, which becomes accessible after defeating Ketheric Thorm on top of Moonrise Towers. The Mind Flayer Pod, which contains the asset, can be found in the Tadpoling Center, located next to the brine pools.
Interestingly, it is revealed that the asset is Mizora herself, who was taken captive while investigating the Absolute. In order to progress, a member of the active party must successfully pass easy Arcana checks to identify the devices positioned to the left and right of Mizora. They must then make a decision on which device to activate. While the "annihilate" device may appear enticing, it is important to note that Wyll's contract will not terminate with Mizora's demise. Instead, he will be instantly pulled down to Hell. Additionally, the active character has the option to attempt a Strength check against a difficulty of 14 in order to forcibly open the pod.
Still, Mizora has one last surprise in store: as per the terms of the contract, she has a grace period of six months before terminating it. Consequently, Wyll will continue to be a Warlock of the Fiend for the duration of the campaign.
Upon receiving this regrettable news, players have the opportunity to attempt a Persuasion check, with a difficulty of 14. If successful, Mizora will reward the party with the Infernal Rapier. This extraordinary weapon is a +2 rapier that enhances the wielder's spell save DC by +1 and allows them to use their primary spellcasting ability modifier instead of Dexterity or Strength. In addition, the wielder can utilize the spell Planar Ally: Cambion once per long rest. Even if players choose not to grant Wyll the Pact of the Blade class feature, this weapon proves highly advantageous for him.
The Impossible Choice
In Act 2, even if players successfully negotiate an end to Wyll's pact, Mizora has unfinished business with him. As the party reaches Wyrm's Rock Fortress, Mizora can be found standing near the base of the stairs leading to the Audience Chamber. However, she refuses to reveal her purpose until the party witnesses Lord Gortash's coronation. After the party descends the stairs, Mizora will initiate a conversation.
Despite witnessing Grand Duke Ravengard's declaration of Gortash as the new archduke, Mizora will explain that Gortash has swiftly relocated Ravengard to a secret location that she doubts the party will discover. Nevertheless, she claims to possess the knowledge and means to assist them.
If Wyll violates the pact in Act 2, when players conclude the day, Mizora and two witnesses will appear in the camp. Mizora will disclose the whereabouts of Wyll's father and offer protection, but only if Wyll permanently consigns his soul to Mizora and Zariel. If Wyll declines, Mizora ensures that Ravengard's adversaries will eliminate him. Wyll is indecisive, leaving the choice to the protagonist.
Inquiring about Wyll's powers, players can inquire about "Addendum F." Mizora explains that according to the addendum, Wyll will retain his Warlock abilities until the Absolute is defeated. In essence, he will remain a Warlock throughout the entire game, regardless of the outcome. Mizora will also continue to be present in the party camp, regardless of whether Wyll renews the pact or not, unless the player chooses to remove her.
If Wyll consents to the agreement, Mizora will disclose the whereabouts of the underwater prison owned by Iron Throne to the party. Upon reaching Ravengard's cell, she will cast beneficial spells to aid his escape. However, if Wyll terminates the pact, the party can still navigate their way to Iron Throne, preserving Ravengard's life. Nevertheless, upon his liberation, Mizora will summon six explosive spiders in an attempt to assassinate him. This intensifies the perilous situation, but the party can still successfully rescue him.
Should the players save Ravengard while breaking the pact, Mizora will express reluctant admiration for their accomplishment. However, using a Detect Thoughts check will uncover her intentions to plan another scheme to end Duke Ravengard's life. Despite this, it grants an opportunity for father and son to reconcile, while also providing the party with information about a formidable dragon capable of aiding them against the Absolute's army.
Players have the option to rescue the grand duke without Wyll participating. If this is the case, Mizora will not have any influence in either direction. However, if players accept Mizora's offer but fail to make a decision regarding the pact before reaching the prison, Ravengard will be found dead upon arrival at Iron Throne.
