Players in Baldur's Gate 3 should not underestimate the Zhent faction. They operate like a mafia, engaging in the illicit trade of goods. While some scoundrels may have honorable intentions, the Zhent are willing to go to extreme lengths, including assassination, torture, theft, and concealing their actions.
Encountering the Zhent in Baldur's Gate 3 means constantly being on guard. During a conversation with Brem, he presents a portrait created by an artist whom he keeps enslaved. For a suitable payment, ownership of Oskar can be transferred to the player.
This article divulges consequences within the game and reveals information the player's character may not know. Gamers committed to role-playing may wish to stop reading and find these things out for themselves.

Consequences of Buying Oskar
Buying Oskar opens an intriguing questline involving a love triangle (more experience).
Oskar will cost anywhere between 600 and 1200 gold (save money by leaving him).
Although he promises riches, Oskar can not guarantee payment to the player character.
Players should consider purchasing Oskar only if they are willing to spend an additional 200 gold to transport him to Baldur's Gate.
Simply put, Oskar is one of the priciest acquisitions during the early stages of the game. Should players choose to align themselves with the Zhentarim, they will have access to shared resources, but they will not be able to acquire their beloved artist for a bargain price. If players successfully pass an Intimidation or Persuasion check, Oskar can be obtained for 600 gold, whereas failure in the check results in a cost of 1000 gold.
In addition, despite Oskar's promise of a reward, he actually requires additional funds for the journey to Baldur's Gate. Players who decline this expense will have successfully helped Oskar, but will miss out on his quests in Baldur's Gate. Even characters of good alignment may opt to abandon Oskar with the Zhent mob due to his dishonest and deceitful nature. However, those who prioritize saving lives at any cost can acquire the treasure from the Underground Passage, garner sufficient funds to free Oskar, and cover his travel expenses.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available in Early Access for PC and will officially release on August 3rd, 2023. The PlayStation 5 version will follow on September 6th, 2023. The Xbox Series X/S version is still under development.
