Survive the Wyrmway's Chamber of Courage in Baldur's Gate 3 by strategizing wisely Ensure a healer with Sanctuary and distribute potions Utilize summons like Mage Hand, Elementals, and Animal Companions Prioritize crowd control spells like Banish and Domination Consider employing a Globe of Invulnerability Scroll

Once players of Baldur's Gate 3 discover the entrance to the Wyrmway, which is the hiding place of the dragon Ansur, they encounter a set of challenges meant to demonstrate their heroism. Each of the four wings evaluates different characteristics - Insight, Courage, Strategy, and Justice - in the aspiring hero.

Among these challenges is the Chamber of Courage, where players are tested by waves of enemies that gradually become more difficult. While not the most demanding puzzle in Baldur's Gate 3, surviving this chamber requires appropriate preparation and a strategy that avoids direct combat.

How To Survive The Chamber of Courage

Keep A Healer In The Party With Sanctuary, And Give Potions To Everyone

A highly effective strategy for endurance encounters such as the Chamber of Courage is to employ the spell Sanctuary on multiple companions prior to engaging in combat. This extraordinary spell offers unparalleled protection, ensuring that the designated target remains unharmed until they initiate an attack or inflict harm upon an adversary. Sanctuary belongs to the Abjuration school of magic and is readily accessible to Clerics early on in the game.

It may not offer protection against AoE attacks, but it significantly enhances survivability. A dedicated Healer is essential in the party for recovering from enemy attacks when Sanctuary is not available. Life Domain Clerics possess the Preserve Life Channel Divinity feature, while spells like Mass Healing Word can also be equally effective in providing AoE healing.

Additionally, it is advisable to provide each character with a few potent Healing potions. As the battle continues over several rounds, if the Healer exhausts their Spell Slots while trying to keep everyone alive, tossing a Healing potion to a wounded ally can get the job done – provided that the potion is in the thrower's inventory.

Use Summons – Mage Hand, Elementals, Animal Companions, Etc

Maximizing the number of summons is a highly effective strategy to enhance survival during combat in Baldur's Gate 3. It is not necessary for these summons to possess considerable strength since their primary purpose is to divert the attention of enemies rather than eliminate them.

If every member of the party summons an extra party member, the enemies will have twice as many options to choose from during their turn. Prior to starting the Chamber of Courage challenge, it is advisable to summon some distractions, as they will remain in the turn-based combat, allowing each companion to perform a standard action on their first turn.

Choose CC Over Direct Damage, Especially Banish/Domination Spells

The goal of the Chamber of Courage is not to defeat all the enemies that spawn, but rather to survive all five rounds. However, new enemies replace the defeated ones in each round, making it impossible for players to ensure their survival by eliminating them all. Therefore, unless a character can confidently eliminate an enemy within one turn, it is advisable to use Crowd Control or other special abilities instead.

The most effective Crowd Control abilities for this battle are Hold Monster, Banish, and Silence. Hold Monster immobilizes enemies, preventing them from taking any actions, while Banish sends them to another plane of existence temporarily, completely removing them from the fight. Nevertheless, Silence is the most advantageous ability that players can easily employ in this encounter.

Consider Using A Globe of Invulnerability Scroll

All the spawned enemies in the Chamber of Courage are elemental creatures and possess powerful spellcasting abilities. Among their arsenal of skills, the Silence spell stands out, capable of enveloping a significant area with a sphere that prohibits both enemies and allies from casting spells within its range. By strategically casting this spell at the periphery of the chamber, where the enemies emerge, it effectively hinders them from unleashing their spells upon the party as soon as they materialize.

The Globe of Invulnerability spell is a Level 6 spell exclusive to Wizards and Sorcerers. However, players may occasionally come across Scrolls of this potent spell in the world or from vendors. Visit Sorcerous Sundries to purchase a Globe of Invulnerability scroll, although be prepared for a hefty price. If your party lacks a Wizard to teach the spell, bring the scroll to the Wyrmway.

Once cast, the Globe of Invulnerability will last for three turns, which is more than half of the total rounds players need to endure. Use the first two rounds to prepare your party strategically, and on the third round, cast the spell to ensure survival until the end of the challenge.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available for PC and PlayStation 5. A version for Xbox Series X/S is currently in development.
