Baldur's Gate 3: Unraveling the Enigma of the Vanished Letters

Sword Coast Courier pigeons vanish, taking crucial letters in Baldur's Gate 3 Discover the elusive pigeon's location, navigate to Open Hand Temple Roof, and unravel the significance of reading the lost letters Get ready for an epic adventure!

Baldur's Gate 3 is filled with plenty of side content to explore, and Act 3 is no different, even though it's the final act of the game. One mission that players will encounter involves assisting in the search for missing letters from the Sword Coast Courier, located in Rivington.

To learn about the situation, players can either talk to NPCs outside who mention their own missing letters or speak to the employee at the Sword Coast Courier office. The employee confirms the recent attacks on their courier pigeons, leading to a lack of confidence in successful delivery. The player is tasked with finding the missing letters and returning them promptly, with a strict instruction not to read them. Here's how to complete this quest.

How to Find the Pigeon

The initial instructions for this quest are quite vague and do not provide any useful hints for locating the missing letters. However, players are subtly directed to stay within the Sword Coast Courier building as the quest circle only encompasses the building itself. It is possible for players to misunderstand the significance of this circle and disregard it completely. The next step, which is intended, is for Baldur's Gate 3 players to enter the door adjacent to the Sword Coast Courier employee and proceed upstairs.

Upon reaching the upper level, players will come across several pigeons and should approach the nearest one sitting on a barrel. By using a "speak with animals" scroll or having a character with this ability, players can engage in conversation with this particular pigeon. This pigeon has important information to share, specifically mentioning that their enemy has approached from the west side and is just one rooftop away.

How To Reach The Open Hand Temple Roof

Upon receiving valuable information from the pigeon, players should explore the western rooftop known as the Open Hand Temple. To access the roof properly, players should enter the temple and follow the right path, leading directly to the kitchen. Exiting through the door on the right side of the kitchen will take the player outside. Continuing with the same direction, players should then immediately turn right and descend the stairs. At the bottom of the steps, there will be a climbable vine on the player's right, leading all the way to the temple roof. Alternatively, the player can bypass these steps by utilizing the "fly" or "misty step" abilities to instantly reach the top of the temple.

Once on the roof, the player should head towards the center of the building, where they will notice a bird's nest containing Tara, a lovable furry creature known as a Tressym (a winged cat-like creature). If Gale is currently part of the player's party, he will instantly recognize the Tressym and engage in unique dialogue options with the creature. Regardless, players should interact with Tara and choose their preferred dialogue options, acquiring the letters and advancing the quest to the next stage.

Should Players Read The Missing Letters

After obtaining the letter, the player should now go back to the Sword Coast Courier to complete the quest. However, before rushing there, there is an important decision to be made: should players read the letters? The choice is entirely up to the players and what aligns with their character's motivations. It is worth noting that opening the letter will offer blackmail/intimidation options for a higher monetary reward. Regardless of the player's decision, they should then return to the Sword Coast Courier and report to Danzo at the desk.

Baldur's Gate 3 is currently available on PC and will be launched on PS5 on September 6.
