In the prologue of Baldur's Gate 3, titled "A Nautiloid in Hell," players have the opportunity to discover and collect a pair of intriguing objects. These objects are jars containing brains, distinct in their green hue against the mind flayers' dominant red and purple color scheme.

Though the brain jars may not serve an immediate purpose in the prologue, it is advisable for players to hold onto them. The reason being, if the party still possesses these jars when Act 2 concludes, they will stumble upon a significant use for them within the depths of the Mind Flayer Colony. In this location, six additional brain jars can also be found.

In the Mind Flayer Colony's southwest region lies an isolated platform that can be accessed by the party via jumping. On this platform, there are several shelves showcasing intriguing items associated with BG3, such as Balthazar's Notes, two mind flayer information Rune Slates, a crystal ball, and a Resonance Stone.

Adjacent to these shelves, to the left, there is a peculiar "Slack-Skinned Head" connected to a machine known as the Mind-Archive Interface. Although the game does not provide direct instructions on how to utilize this device, a green brain jar named True Mind is positioned just below it, while another jar called Willing Mind can be found on a nearby shelf.

Where to Find Brain Jars

To begin, players should choose the Mind-Archive Interface and proceed to place one of the green brain jars into it. Afterward, they need to interact with the Slack-Skinned Head, which will engage in conversation as if it is the brain contained within the jar. Once the dialogue concludes, players are able to retrieve the brain from the Interface and replace it with a fresh one.

There are six brain jars in the Mind Flayer Colony and two more players can collect from the nautiloid.

The True Mind provides information about the True Soul tadpole creation process and sits under the Mind-Archive Interface.

The Willing Mind is on the shelf next to the Interface.

The Closed Mind can be found within one of the rooms located in the Barracks.

The Waking Mind is positioned behind the brain puzzle, situated to the east of the Mind-Archive Interface. Belonging to a githzerai individual, this particular mind has the ability to grant the speaker a permanent advantage when facing Intelligence saving throws, provided the player agrees to fulfill their request.

The Butchered Mind is on a shelf in the Morgue.

The Fresh Mind is by a stack of crates near the elevator.

The Dark Mind is on a table in the same room where players can find Shadowheart in the nautiloid.

The Slave Mind is in the side room full of Mind Flayer Pods in the nautiloid.
