Maximum Party Size

There can be no more than four players (including the main character) in an active party.

There are six permanent companions and four temporary companions available.

Players can additionally hire up to three hirelings in addition to the companions.

Summoned units and recruits increase the combatants but not the party size.

Currently, there is a limit of four party members allowed in an active party. Although this may be disappointing, the encounters have been carefully adjusted to ensure that exceeding this number would make combat too easy. Nevertheless, players still have the option to switch between numerous party members.

In addition to the regular companions, players also have the opportunity to recruit additional party members through hirelings. By dismissing all companions to camp, players can have up to three hirelings. However, it is important to note that these hirelings will need to be re-hired if ever dismissed.

Summoned units are a slight exception to this limit, with a soft cap of one per party member. However, there are some ways to bypass this restriction. For instance, if Glut accompanies the party when entering the Underdark, both Glut and a summoned unit can belong to a single party member.

Baldur's Gate 3 is currently playable on PC, and the PlayStation 5 version will be released on September 6th, 2023. Development for an Xbox Series X/S version is still ongoing.
