Developer Larian Studios has released the first hotfix for Baldur's Gate 3, addressing issues such as crashes and disappearing characters in split-screen games.

The hotfix also addresses issues with in-game cinematics, such as character clipping and misplaced cameras. This update will be welcomed by fans, as it fixes more than 150 bugs and problems, ultimately enhancing the overall gameplay experience of Baldur's Gate 3.

Addressing issues hindering players' enjoyment of Baldur's Gate 3, developer Larian Studios wasted no time in releasing a hotfix only one day after the game's launch. Despite receiving high praise from critics and fans, some players have already expressed frustration with various issues, including co-op functionality and crashes on the Steam Deck. Baldur's Gate 3, which originally appeared as an early access title in late 2020, is the newest addition to the D&D-based series of CRPGs that originated in 1998. Although Larian Studios has taken over from the original developer BioWare, the game still prioritizes player choice and contains tabletop-inspired gameplay mechanics. Alongside its standout gameplay, Baldur's Gate 3 has garnered praise for its amusing writing, with Larian Studios even hiding a humorous secret message in the game's EULA.

Larian Studios has swiftly responded to lingering issues in Baldur’s Gate 3 by releasing the game’s first hotfix on Steam. This update addresses various problems, including disappearing characters in split-screen games and issues with the save system, which the developer attributes to the game’s cross-save functionality. The hotfix also resolves crashes that players were experiencing, although it remains uncertain whether this will resolve the crashing problem specific to Steam Deck users when launching Baldur’s Gate 3.

In addition to fixing technical and graphical problems, the hotfix also focuses on improving in-game cinematics. Given the story-heavy nature of Baldur’s Gate 3, it’s not surprising that cinematic changes make up a significant portion of the update. These changes include preventing characters from clipping through each other, fixing misplaced cameras, and ensuring that an NPC doesn’t disrupt crucial moments by turning their back on the player during an endgame sequence. However, players are advised to avoid reading the patch notes for these cinematic changes if they wish to avoid story spoilers until completing the game.

This update brings a variety of fixes for significant issues in the game, which will be great news for Baldur's Gate 3 fans. With the assurance that their game won't unexpectedly crash anymore, players can now focus on more important activities, such as creating their character, like Papa Smurf, in the Baldur's Gate 3 character creator. Please note, the patch notes for cinematics include spoilers for the story.
