Baldur's Gate 3 Save Bug on Xbox: A Frustrating Issue Finally Getting a Fix

Larian Studios announces the date that Baldur's Gate 3 players may finally be able to rid themselves of the frustrating save bug on Xbox.

The Frustrating Save Bug on Xbox

A frustrating save issue impacting many Baldur's Gate 3 players on the Xbox platform finally has an updating coming, which should resolve the firmware problem once and for all. While The Game Awards featured plenty of surprises, one of the biggest for many was the shadow launch of Baldur's Gate 3 on Xbox. As it turns out, the announcement was supposed to be made during the big Game of the Year speech, but due to limited time during the acceptance speech, the reveal was never made outside of a Tweet from Larian Studios. Regardless, there was no shortage of excitement from Xbox fans who had to wait while Larian and Microsoft attempted to get splitscreen working on the Series S to make sure both versions were identical. Unfortunately, the Xbox version of Baldur's Gate 3 suffers from a save deletion bug that has caused many players to lose their progress entirely. Both Microsoft and Larian have continued to work on the problem, issuing both temporary workarounds and firmware updates that have yet to fully resolve the problem, though according to a new Tweet, it seems players now have an actual date to look forward to for a fix.

Baldur's Gate 3 Save Update Release Date

In a new post on Twitter, Larian Studios revealed some good news as the frustrating save bug impacting Baldur's Gate 3 players finally has a dedicated fix on the way. According to Microsoft, they've managed to identify the issue and are preparing to release a firmware update to address it. Larian admits that it hasn't been able to independently verify the fix, but the studio remains optimistic that Microsoft has truly found the root cause. Thankfully, the announcement of a dedicated fix wasn't the only important detail provided by Larian. The Tweet also confirmed that Baldur's Gate 3 players will have two ways to apply a fix. Microsoft is releasing a console firmware update on January 16 that players can manually update if they want. However, they also have the option to wait 1 additional week for an update, likely a Hotfix, to apply the fix to the game.

Continued Improvements and Updates

While fans now have an actual date, Larian has continued to address other parts of the game, fixing bugs, issues, and adding quality of life updates to further improve things for players. Hotfix 16 recently launched for Baldur's Gate 3, solving a number of potential game crashes and other bugs that are getting in the way. One of the other highlights of the massive patch is that players now have unfettered access to certain quest-related items, being able to access them regardless of their location on a companion or even a camp chest.
