Highlights
Various items like weapons, potions, and trinkets can give players an advantage in Baldur's Gate 3, but there are also useful miscellaneous items to discover.
Goodberries are magical food items that can restore a character's hit points and remain effective until they take a long rest. Wyvern Toxin, on the other hand, is a potent poison that can be applied to weapons. Soul Coins serve as a specific form of currency within the Nine Hells, while Thieves' Tools are essential for lockpicking. Additionally, the Smokepowder Satchel can be utilized by throwing it to create explosive effects.
Weapons, gear, potions, trinkets, and scrolls offer players an advantage against their foes in Baldur's Gate 3. Additionally, players can find miscellaneous items that have their own unique usefulness. Act I is abundant with such items, allowing players to kickstart their adventure.
These peculiar and practical items are acquired through various means. Some are discovered in chests or crates, while others are obtained from defeated enemies. A few items are even summoned through magical abilities. All of these items can be found in the diverse locations of Act 1 in Baldur's Gate 3, such as the Druid Grove, the Goblin Camp, and the vicinity of the Illithid crash site.
8 Goodberries
Goodberries are consumable items that remain in effect until a character undergoes a long rest. These items, which can be created by Rangers and Druids starting from level 1, have the ability to restore between 1 and 4 hit points when ingested.
Upon casting the spell on a character, the goodberries automatically appear in their inventory, eliminating the need for any trading. As the casting time for the Conjure Goodberry spell requires an Action, it is advisable to use it outside of combat situations. It should be noted, however, that despite their classification as food, goodberries cannot be utilized as Camp Supplies.
7 Wyvern Toxin
In Baldur's Gate 3, players have access to various poisons that can be applied to their weapons to enhance their damage. The Wyvern Toxin, considered one of the most lethal poisons available during this stage of the game, is obtained early on in Act 1 at the Druid Grove. During a conversation with Mattie, players are informed about the mind-flayer transformation and are given the Wyvern Toxin as a precautionary measure. Examining the bottle in the inventory reveals that it is a weapon coating poison.
6 Soul Coins
In Baldur's Gate 3's Avernus, a realm within the Nine Hells, the player will come across Soul Coins, a form of currency. During this journey, the player will encounter demons and their servants. In Act I, there are a few Soul Coins scattered throughout. The first one, commonly discovered by players, can be found inside the Druid Grove with an NPC named Nadira. Additional coins can be found in the Dank Crypt and a house near the Risen Road. More coins will become available once the player reaches the city of Baldur's Gate. It is advisable to keep them close for future quests and secrets involving creatures from the Nine Hells.
5 Thieves' Tools
Thieves' Tools enable characters to effortlessly access locked areas, offering a discreet approach and avoiding any confrontations with guards to obtain keys. Bards and Rogues, as part of their class advantages, can utilize their Sleight of Hand skill with these tools to open locks.
These versatile tools are effective in unlocking various types of barriers, such as chests, gates, and jail cells. However, it should be noted that they are not designed for disabling traps, a skill that becomes crucial in Act I as the journey heads towards the treacherous Underdark.
4 Infernal Iron
In Act I, Infernal Iron can be obtained from various locations such as the blacksmith building in the Blighted Village, Grymforge, and the treasure room in the Shattered Sanctum. However, it is not until Act 2 that players can utilize this material.
Infernal Iron serves a crucial purpose as it powers the Infernal Engine residing within Karlach's chest. Its significance lies in the fact that only Dammon, a Tiefling, possesses the knowledge of how to harness its potential. Dammon can be located either in the Druid Grove or the Last Light Inn.
3 Smokepowder Satchel
The Smokepowder Satchel provides both entertainment and practicality, as anything that can be thrown and explode is bound to be useful. While there are numerous flammable liquids and elixirs that ignite upon contact, this option goes beyond by actually causing explosions. Therefore, it is beneficial to have multiple satchels at hand to maximize its firepower.
The player has two options for utilizing the satchel: either dropping it in a specific location and leaving it as a trap, or throwing it into a cluster of enemies. Lighting it up is a simple process, requiring either an Arrow of Fire or a Firebolt spell. While the primary purpose of the satchel is to eliminate enemies through explosions, it can also be employed to clear blocked doors or remove rubble.
2 Bottle Of Water
Water bottles are commonly obtained as loot from enemies and chests, and can also be easily found on shelves and tables. Vendors often stock them as well. Despite its simplicity and usefulness, many players tend to overlook this basic necessity.
Water can be conveniently stored in bottles, and there is even a level 1 spell that enables casters to create water. This crucial resource can be utilized to extinguish fire and create a safe zone for the party, or to impede enemy movement by making the terrain challenging to cross. Furthermore, drinking water provides a refreshing effect, offering additional benefits to characters.
1 Ball
After discovering and befriending Scratch the Dog in the wilderness of Act 1, players will come across this special item. Eventually, Scratch will bring a ball to camp and anticipate engaging in a few rounds of Fetch.
However, this ball serves a greater purpose than mere entertainment around the campfire. By throwing the ball for Scratch, the bond between adventurer and dog is strengthened, unveiling his remarkable abilities such as finding concealed objects and transforming into a familiar that players can summon.
Baldur's Gate 3is available on PC, with the PS5 version set to debut on September 6, 2023.
