During a boss fight with Auntie Ethel (for players who choose to participate) in Baldur's Gate 3, players will need to chase after the monster in order to defeat her and rescue her victims. However, Auntie Ethel has fled a significant distance away, leading the player to encounter several traps.
One particular challenge in Baldur's Gate 3 is the presence of the Noxious Fumes, which can make this section of the game seem impossible to survive. Players who are accustomed to solving puzzles may search for a safe path through the fumes, but unfortunately, no such path exists. Fortunately, the solution to this challenge lies within the Noxious Fumes themselves.
How To Disable The Noxious Fumes
Use a fire spell to burn the Noxious Fumes away temporarily.
Do not enter the burning area. Instead, look for an object in the flames called 'Ruptured Stone.'
Grab a low-value object and select 'Throw.'
Throw the object on top of the Ruptured Stone.
To tackle Mayrina, players must first brave the treacherous Noxious Fumes. While it is technically possible to rush through and recover afterwards, the latter part of this boss battle is merciless, requiring players to utilize every spell and healing potion at their disposal. Attempting to burn the fumes only results in creating a hazardous fiery zone, offering no advantage.
A simple solution is to place an inexpensive item upon the Ruptured Stone, a distinguishable section of the ground that serves as a vent, leaking the toxic gas into different areas. Once covered, there is no need to disable the vent, unless players are adamant about retrieving the tossed item. Alternatively, players can employ the Whispering Mask, as it has already fulfilled its purpose at this stage.
Keep an eye out for concealed Peculiar Flowers that detonate upon contact and can only be discovered through a Perception check. If players can successfully maneuver through this obstacle, there are no more dangers in this room.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently accessible for PC. The PlayStation 5 version will be released on September 6th, 2023. Development is still underway for the Xbox Series X/S version.
