Beneath Wyrm's Rock Fortress in Baldur's Gate 3, players can discover a concealed cave where a mythical dragon is rumored to be slumbering. To access this dragon, players must initially demonstrate their competence by undertaking four trials, similar to the Trials of Shar encountered in Act 2.
Among these trials lies the Trial of Insight, positioned as the second trial from the left, on the opposite side of a luminous bridge. Although the puzzle itself is uncomplicated, players of Baldur's Gate 3 often encounter difficulty due to the lack of clear instructions on how to engage with the puzzle components.
How to Read the Trial of Insight Books
To commence the trial, players must approach the statue of Balduran and consult with it to grasp the premise. The premise entails three individuals holding diverse viewpoints on post-war actions. Capacities of one person's opinions have more detrimental effects compared to the other two, necessitating the party to eliminate them. If the party successfully identifies the correct individual, they will successfully pass the Trial of Insight.
The three available choices are positioned at the rear section of the cave, manifesting as red illusions. It is possible for players to read their names, but direct communication is prohibited. Instead, players must peruse the three books in motion within the cave, where each book has been authored by one of the three illusory figures.
The problem lies in the party's inability to read the books while they are in mid-air, and any attempt to harm them results in the books exploding and becoming illegible. Instead, the recommended solution is for a character to enter turn-based mode and attempt to throw the book. Although throwing the book seems ineffectual at first, once players exit turn-based mode or a round passes, the book will gently descend to the ground and become readable.
Which Person Should Players Choose?
The three recommended books for players to delve into are Stedd's The Virtues of Union, Suelto's The Ethic of War, and Amaps' Memoirs. Stedd proposes the idea of smaller nations merging with larger ones during times of impending invasion. Suelto argues for an extreme approach of burning down surrendered kingdoms and eliminating their entire population. Amaps fondly recalls their contribution towards enacting legislation against discrimination and improving working conditions for the underprivileged.
Irrespective of the player's personal perspective, it is evident that Suelto holds the most aggressive and harmful viewpoint among the three. Bearing this in mind, players are urged to confront the Suelto illusion. By doing so, they will gain the favor of the statue of Balduran, enabling the party to successfully overcome the Trial of Insight.
Baldur's Gate 3 is currently accessible on macOS and PC, with its release on PS5 scheduled for September 6.
