In the classic RPG Fable, the main character begins the game with the less-than-prestigious title of "Chicken Chaser." However, in Baldur's Gate 3, players have the opportunity to earn this "illustrious" title by triumphing over a unique game within the goblin camp near the druid grove.
Commencing this peculiar side quest in Baldur's Gate 3 is fairly straightforward: just venture to the western section of the camp and seek out a female goblin known as Krolla. Nevertheless, outperforming this small game proves to be much more challenging than most players anticipate.
How to Chase a Chicken
To start, players need to approach Krolla and propose playing the game. The group can place a bet of 30 gold, 300 gold, or no gold on the outcome. Then, the player who spoke to Krolla must go alone and position themselves on the circle near the entrance of the obstacle course. To facilitate this game, Baldur's Gate 3 will automatically separate the character from the rest of the group.
Once the game commences, players are given 10 rounds (equivalent to one minute) to guide the chicken towards the torches located on the western side of the course. Normally, the chicken will evade the party member, but the direction it takes is random. Players have the option to use boxes and barrels within the course to obstruct paths and limit the chicken's choices. However, it is important to note that at times, the chicken may surpass obstacles by climbing or fitting through narrow openings that a human couldn't.
How to Cheat at Chasing Chickens
To ensure the chicken doesn't flee into the rest of the camp, players should proactively block the exit at the obstacle course entrance. Additionally, players have the freedom to rearrange the obstacles and construct a direct pathway. However, they should bear in mind the time limit, as running out of time is a frequent occurrence.
Before even speaking to Krolla, players have the opportunity to explore the obstacle course for chicken chasing. Interestingly, they can choose to rearrange all the boxes and barrels even before the game begins. It's worth noting that all the containers are painted in red, indicating the goblins' disapproval if players dare to move them, yet there are no goblins present to get angered by such actions.
However, there is a major drawback to this approach. Although goblins are not initially present, they will appear once the chicken chasing game commences. During the game, Krolla will go around and restore everything to its original position. Players who opt for this strategy should be mindful of this additional time constraint or consider moving several containers close to the entrance. This will keep Krolla preoccupied with fixing those and less likely to disrupt the course.
Irrespective of the player's decisions, there is an additional instance of cheating at the end. When players emerge victorious in the game and request their winnings, Krolla will insist that only a goblin can truly emerge as the winner. In response, players can choose to either Intimidate or Persuade her for their payment, with a difficulty class (DC) set at 15. Alternatively, they can employ Illithid mind control to demand their money, with a significantly lower number to overcome. Regardless of the chosen method, successfully completing this minigame results in becoming a certified chicken chaser.
