Baldur's Gate 3 Fans in Awe: The Perfect Mobile Game Copycat Art?

Baldur's Gate 3 fans find amusement in the audacious use of Astarion copycat artwork to promote a well-known mobile game

Highlights

A mobile game has used edited Baldur's Gate 3 art to advertise itself, leading to amusement and laughter from fans of the RPG.

Baldur's Gate 3 has achieved great success due to the dedication put into its diverse cast of characters, resulting in high praise from critics. The use of modified artwork in this particular mobile app has added a touch of humor to the situation, ensuring that it is unmistakably distinct from any association with Baldur's Gate 3.

A mobile game has been caught using modified artwork from Baldur's Gate 3 to promote itself, and fans of Larian's RPG are mocking the audacity. Since its release in early August, Baldur's Gate 3 has skyrocketed in popularity, becoming one of the year's most sought-after games. The game's cast of companion characters, such as Astarion and Lae'zel, have even gained recognition among non-players. However, it came as a surprise for Baldur's Gate 3 players to discover these familiar-looking characters in another game.

Dungeons and Dragons, a game that emphasizes deep character connections among players, values meaningful relationships. Although Baldur's Gate 3 offers multiplayer options, Larian took great care in replicating the experience of a complete party by introducing AI companions with intricate stories and backgrounds. The immense effort invested in creating Baldur's Gate 3's character roster has been widely acclaimed, and Larian has earned praise for their remarkable achievement.

It is disappointing to see Nevermore: Idle Immortal RPG allegedly using the art from Baldur's Gate 3 to capitalize on its success. A shared image on Twitter reveals that the profile for Nevermore: Idle Immortal RPG on the Apple App Store features the key art from Baldur's Gate 3 with edited character appearances, possibly achieved through the use of AI.

Despite the alterations, it is evident that the image is indeed the Baldur's Gate 3 key art. Astarion is depicted with one hand reaching out and the other holding a dagger. Lae'zel the Githyanki stands behind him, wielding a long two-handed sword. The image also includes a third character, representing Gale in Baldur's Gate 3's art. However, all three characters have undergone changes to their faces and hair. Astarion now appears as a young man with a softer countenance, Lae'zel's features include a full nose and pouty lips, and Gale is unrecognizable.

Mobile apps, particularly games developed in Asian regions with lenient copyright laws, frequently resort to using assets from other games as their own. The surge in popularity of Baldur's Gate 3 has made it a prime target for art theft. However, in this particular case, the stolen art has been edited and resulted in a hilariously different situation. It is highly unlikely that anyone would mistake Nevermore for being associated with Baldur's Gate 3.

Currently, a search on the Apple App Store yields no results for Nevermore: Idle Immortal RPG. After its initial discovery, the game supposedly changed its title to Balder War: Epic Immortal RPG but has since either changed its name once again or has been removed from the App Store. It is unlikely that Larian Studios or Apple will take any action against it. Nonetheless, the imitated bishonen Astarion art is something that all Baldur's Gate 3 players can appreciate for what it is.

Baldur's Gate 3 is available now on PC and PS5. An Xbox Series X/S version is in development.
