A lien has been filed on Kanye West’s Malibu home nearly one month after the property went up for sale.
Attorney Ron Zambrano has filed a lien against the 46-year-old rapper in order to ensure that his client Tony Saxon receives the payment owed by Kanye West.
Zambrano stated on Wednesday, January 10, "It's no secret that Kanye is having financial problems, so we just want to ensure that he has enough money to pay the over $1 million he still owes our client before he goes completely broke. If anyone does work on someone's house in California and that person doesn't get paid, under the law, we can put a lien on the property, and if there's still no effort to pay the bill, a judge could force the person to sell the house to pay off the laborer."
Saxon initiated legal action against West in September 2023, alleging disability discrimination, numerous labor code breaches, unpaid earnings, and unjust dismissal.
According to the statement, "If anyone wishes to purchase Kanye's Malibu residence, they will need to address the matter with us first. Tony must receive payment before the sale can proceed."
Saxon was employed as a contractor and live-in caretaker for West's residence. He filed a lawsuit alleging that he was compelled to work 16-hour days and sleep on the floor near exposed insulation. He claimed that West owed him over $1 million in unpaid wages. Additionally, Saxon stated that he was terminated after refusing to remove the house's electrical system and replace it with large generators, which he believed posed a fire hazard.

The court documents stated that the plaintiff was fired for not complying with dangerous requests from the defendants. Specifically, when the plaintiff refused to engage in unlawful conduct or activities that would cause him physical harm, Mr. Ye responded by saying, "If you don't do what I say, you're not going to work for me, I'm not going to be your friend anymore and you'll just see me on TV." The plaintiff replied, "I don't watch TV." Mr. Ye then ended the exchange by saying, "leave."
According to documents obtained by Radar Online in November 2023, West has denied the allegations by requesting the court to dismiss the claims.
Four months after the lawsuit was filed, West enlisted Selling Sunset star Jason Oppenheim to sell his 4,000-square-foot Malibu beach house. The property, listed for $53 million in December 2023, was nearly four million less than what West had paid for it in 2021. However, the estate currently lacks doors, windows, plumbing, architectural finishes, or an HVAC system, and it is also not wired for electricity.

“This house will need several million dollars to be completed,” said Oppenheim, 46, to The Wall Street Journal. “The house already has a lot of architectural integrity and value.”
At the time, Oppenheim did not reveal the reason why West decided to sell.
