The nominees for the award included BOCCHI THE ROCK!, Chainsaw Man, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Swordsmith Village Arc, JUJUTSU KAISEN Season 2, OSHI NO KO, and VINLAND SAGA SEASON 2. The absence of Attack on Titan from the list has sparked discussions and disappointment among the anime community.
The Voting Process and Eligibility Criteria
The omission of Attack on Titan from the nominees was attributed to Crunchyroll's voting process and eligibility criteria. According to the rules, anime eligible for nomination must have had at least one episode air on television or online in Japan between October 2022 and September 2023.
While Attack on Titan: Final Season - The Final Chapters had its highly anticipated finale air in 2023, it failed to meet the voting period deadline. The judges' consideration was limited to episodes released before October 17, 2023, which led to the anime's exclusion from the nominations.
Despite the disappointment, the release of a special episode in November 2023 indicates a potential nomination for the 2025 Anime Awards. The anime's future recognition remains a topic of interest and hope for its dedicated fanbase.
