Tomorrow Studios CEO Marty Adelstein has announced that the second season of One Piece is in the works, and there is a possibility for an earlier release if Netflix decides to renew the series. Tomorrow Studios produced the live-action adaptation of the popular manga by Eiichiro Oda for the streaming service. The first season consisted of eight episodes, which adapted the East Blue Saga and followed the young and ambitious pirate Monkey D. Luffy as he formed the Straw Hat Pirates in search of a legendary pirate captain's treasure.

In an interview with Variety, Adelstein discussed the upcoming season 2 and shared that the initial scripts have already been written before the release of the Netflix series. Tomorrow Studios president Becky Clements added that season 2 could potentially be released within one to one and a half years, depending on the resolution of the ongoing WGA and SAGAFTRA strikes.

Clements: In a realistic scenario, if we act swiftly, we could potentially be ready to go on air within a year. This is subject to the possibility that it might take slightly longer, approximately between a year and 18 months.

While Oda's ongoing manga provides abundant material for the live-action adaptation of One Piece, season 1 brought the crew together and provided closure for the navigator of the ship, Going Merry. Following their victory over Arlong's crew and the successful rescue of Nam'si from Coco Village, Luffy, Zoro, Usopp, Sanji, and Nami celebrate Luffy's first bounty with a casting-off ceremony, where they declare their dreams. Additionally, a pre-credits stinger in episode 8, titled "Worst in the West," introduces a cigar-smoking figure who burns Luffy's wanted poster, indicating their interest in him. This mysterious figure is Smoker, a formidable Marine vice-admiral whom Luffy previously encountered in the Loguetown arc of the manga. The final moments of episode 8 partially adapted this storyline, setting the stage for a potential first storyline in One Piece season 2.
