The View cohosts believe Taylor Swift should relax in response to Jo Koy's joke about her and the NFL. Whoopi Goldberg kicked off the conversation during the January 8 episode of the ABC daytime show, discussing the events at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards. "Stand-up comedian Jo Koy hosted for the first time, and it was a tough crowd," said Goldberg, 68, before showing a clip of Koy's monologue.
During the awards ceremony on January 7, Koy, 52, started with some jokes that didn't quite hit the mark, blaming the writers for the material. After a commercial break, he made a comment about Taylor Swift, 34, and her frequent appearance on NFL broadcasts due to her relationship with Travis Kelce.
The camera panned to reveal Swift, who had an unhappy expression on her face as she took a sip of her drink. Goldberg, also a comedian, shared on Monday that she empathized with Koy. "These hosting gigs are tough," she said. "If you’re not familiar with the room and you’re thrown out there, it’s hit or miss. I didn’t see it, but I know that Jo is one of the best stand-ups out there."

Goldberg stressed the challenging nature of hosting, urging viewers to “take a look at any of the reviews” from her own less successful performances.
Ana Navarro acknowledged that she did not find Koy's performance funny, but cohost Sara Haines took issue with the audience's response, including Taylor Swift's. "I love Jo Koy and I was nervous for him because I think he's so funny. He's kind, he's good, all the things," Haines, 46, argued. "What bothers me more in watching this is the lack of humor, because we need to protect our comedians, as they are national treasures that life needs."
Haines emphasized that Koy's jokes at the Golden Globes were "punching up," and added, "No one needs to feel sorry. Just smile."
Sunny Hostin wanted to hear from The View's ultimate Swiftie, Alyssa Farah Griffin, about whether Koy's remark was really "that bad" to provoke such a strong reaction. "I was a bit taken aback," admitted Griffin, 34. "I thought that was an easy question. … I thought [Jo] improved a lot as the night went on."
Swift did not respond to the joke any further, but Koy has continued to support his work. "Aww, man, it was cute. I was just saying it was cute," he told Entertainment Tonight after the show. "I was just saying it's less cutaways, that's all."

He told Extra, "It was meant as a compliment, like she could be more personal tonight, that’s all."
When speaking to GMA3 on Monday, Koy admitted that the criticism of his performance was difficult to hear. He described his comment about Swift as a "weird joke," clarifying that it was actually intended as a jab at the NFL and their use of cutaways, rather than at Swift herself.
