American Idol contestant Kennedy Reid is determined to follow her dreams despite facing bullies.

During an episode of “American Idol” on April 14, 23-year-old Reid shared in an interview that she has experienced online bullying related to her appearance since being on the show.

After my audition aired, I was feeling ecstatic. However, that night, I made the error of reading the comments. Most of them were criticizing my appearance, referring to me as a "43-year-old woman" and making negative remarks about my makeup and hair.

I clarified that I wear wigs because I had a mishap while bleaching my hair at home, and that is the sole reason for it.

Jennifer, Reid's mom, chimed in to support her daughter. She uploaded a video on TikTok on February 19, stating, "Kennedy is without a doubt 23 years old. I want to address this for those leaving hurtful comments online."

During Sunday night’s episode, Reid went on to say that despite the pain that reading mean comments has caused her, she is refusing to let them “win.”

With that mindset, Reid chose to perform "Love Can Build a Bridge" by The Judds, a song that highlights how love can unite people and help them to resolve their disagreements.

"I'm determined to reclaim my confidence," she expressed. "I refuse to abandon my aspirations just because someone disapproves of my wig. End of story."

Reid decided to switch up her look for Sunday night's performance by wearing her short blonde hair in a sleek, natural style instead of her usual long blonde wigs.

She completed her outfit with a striking one-shoulder hot pink dress, oversized sparkly hoop earrings, and shimmery champagne-colored eye makeup.

Reid has responded to critics before. Recently, she used Instagram to address comments comparing her to the late televangelist Tammy Faye Messner.

In a detailed caption, Reid defended both Messner and herself. She emphasized Messner's beauty and called out those who mocked her. Reid reminded everyone that nobody is perfect.
