Amanda Bynes, the 37-year-old former child star, was seen being apprehended by the Los Angeles Police Department on Saturday, June 17. TMZ managed to acquire photographs showing Bynes in handcuffs, and according to their report, she was taken to a police station for a mental health evaluation conducted by a professional. However, no additional information has been disclosed at this time.
After being placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold three months prior, she was detained following an incident in downtown L.A. on March 19. Witnesses claim that the former Amanda Show star was walking naked and flagged down a passing car to inform the driver that she was coming down from a psychotic episode. Concerned for her well-being, she dialed 911 herself and was subsequently taken to a police station. The mental health team at the station determined that she required a 5150 psychiatric hold, which is an involuntary detention lasting three days. This measure is implemented in cases where there is a potential risk of self-harm, harm to others, or severe impairment.
Bynes had been scheduled to appear at 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut during the weekend of her March hospitalization. However, she ultimately decided to drop out of the convention just before it started. That’s4Entertainment, the event producer, made the announcement on Instagram, stating that the California-born actress was dealing with an undisclosed illness.
At the All That panel, Bynes' former co-star Kel Mitchell asked fans to "send a prayer" to the star of She's the Man. However, he did not provide any further details about the situation. As a surprise guest, Kenan Thompson stepped in to replace Bynes at the event.
Bynes has faced numerous health challenges over the years. In August 2013, amidst a string of mental health and substance abuse problems, the star of Big Fat Liar was placed under a temporary conservatorship. Amanda's mother, Lynn Bynes, took charge of her healthcare and personal matters.
Court documents from February 2022 revealed that Amanda Bynes, who had previously filed a petition to end her conservatorship, submitted a mental capacity declaration asserting her ability to independently care for herself and manage her own affairs. A psychiatrist's evaluation stated that Amanda exhibited no noticeable deficits in alertness, attention, cognitive function, mood regulation, affect, or thought processes.
A month later, the conservatorship was terminated by a judge following Lynn's submission of a declaration supporting her daughter's plea to terminate the adult guardianship. In March 2022, a reliable source shared with Us that Amanda is thriving both physically and mentally. The source revealed that she is overjoyed by the judge's decision and is resolute in making the most out of this new chapter in her life.
