After facing backlash over his stance on the COVID-19 vaccine, Aaron Rodgers has now turned his attention towards Travis Kelce. Sitting out the remainder of the 2023 season due to an Achilles injury, Rodgers watched from the sidelines as the Kansas City Chiefs emerged victorious against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, October 1. Despite not partaking in the game himself, Rodgers engaged in a post-game discussion where he touched upon his team's 23-20 defeat and specifically mentioned Kelce, aged 33.
During the October 3 episode of "The Pat McAfee Show," Rodgers humorously acknowledged the moral victory of our team's performance against the champions. He highlighted our strong defense and the fact that Chiefs quarterback Pat Mahomes did not have an exceptional game. Rodgers also jokingly mentioned that we managed to limit the impact of Mr. Pfizer Kelce, referencing his recent commercial promoting the COVID-19 booster from the biopharmaceutical company.
"Saving time is crucial for me given my schedule," Kelce shared on Instagram in reference to the advertisement. "The CDC recommends getting the updated COVID-19 vaccine alongside the flu shot if you are due for both. That's why I opted for two shots in one visit! Consult your doctor or pharmacist to see if it's suitable for you. For more information and to schedule an appointment, you can also visit CDC's vaccines.gov."
During his tenure with the Green Bay Packers in November 2021, Rodgers faced criticism when he tested positive for COVID-19 after previously stating he was "immunized" to reporters.
After news broke about his COVID-19 diagnosis, Rodgers asserted that he had followed his own protocol and treatments aimed at boosting his immune system as a defense against the virus. He claimed to have conducted personal research on the COVID-19 vaccine.
Furthermore, Rodgers contended that the NFL had knowledge of his vaccination status and required him to wear a yellow wristband during team practices and events to indicate his unvaccinated status. In an interview on "The Pat McAfee Show" in November 2021, he criticized certain rules, stating that they lacked scientific basis and were primarily intended to shame individuals. He argued that personal health decisions should remain private, expressing disapproval towards the practice of shaming and cancel culture, emphasizing the need to recognize individual circumstances.
Rodgers has been traded to the Jets, who are coincidentally owned by Woody Johnson of Johnson & Johnson, a company also providing COVID-19 vaccinations. However, he is currently sidelined due to an injury sustained in his first game against the Buffalo Bills last month. The injury was confirmed by an MRI, ruling out his return for the remainder of the season.
Despite differing opinions on healthcare, Rodgers and Kelce, who has been in the news recently for his rumored relationship with Taylor Swift (whom Rodgers happily attended a concert with over the summer), maintain a civil relationship. Prior to Sunday's game between the Chiefs and Jets, the two could be seen engaged in conversation.
"I believe there are certain matters that should remain undisclosed," stated Rodgers regarding the discussion on Tuesday's episode of "Pat McAfee" show. "Leaving it open to interpretation might make for a more intriguing narrative. I noticed various speculations regarding the topic of our conversation. However, our relationship spans a significant period, and it was merely a brief exchange."
"Given that he is endorsing Pfizer in commercials, I am confident he is doing exceptionally well," he further commented.
