Despite Diablo 4's massive success since its official launch, with reports indicating revenue of over $600 million, the game has received criticism from some players for omitting quality of life features present in previous titles. This absence is felt by players investing significant time in the game, both in solo and co-op play. While it's possible that the omission was unintentional, the neglect to include staple features of the franchise is confusing and needs to be addressed as Blizzard continues to patch and balance the game.
Missing Co-Op Features From Past Diablo Titles
The online model of Diablo 4 seems to have prioritized the solo experience, with several key features missing from the game's matchmaking and co-op play. Players have been left wanting for fast travel and party management options, with the ability to teleport directly to party members being a particularly noticeable absence. Unlike Diablo 3, where players could right-click on an ally's portrait to instantly teleport to their location, Diablo 4 requires players to coordinate portal locations and collectively teleport back to a dungeon or other location. Additionally, only the player who places a marker on the map can see the navigation pathway, leaving the rest of the party in the dark. It would make more sense for all players in a group to be able to see the same map markers and navigate together towards their destination.
Simple, But Effective, Quality of Life Features That Need to Come to Diablo 4
Inventory management and vendor interactions in Diablo 4 have been criticized for being counterintuitive and lacking some important features from previous games in the series. One such feature is the ability to mark all items as junk, streamlining the selling process. However, in Diablo 4, players have to manually mark each item as junk before being able to sell them at a vendor. Additionally, there is no dedicated gem pouch, leading to gems taking up valuable inventory space. These missing features have been noted by players and it is hoped that Blizzard will address them in future updates.
Diablo 4 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
