Zenitsu Agatsuma will ultimately conquer his fear of demons in Demon Slayer manga
Zenitsu Agatsuma is first depicted as a fearful demon slayer, constantly living in terror of demons. Although his humorous fear may be relatable, it impedes his ability to carry out his duties effectively.
Limited to the initial form of Thunder Breathing, Thunderclap and Flash, Zenitsu often faces demons while unconscious, overcome by fear. However, his instincts for survival force him into action, showcasing his impressive lightning speed and strength.
Zenitsu has utilized this distinctive combat style in multiple engagements, including his confrontation with Rui’s spider demon in the Mount Natagumo Arc and his encounter with former Upper Moon six demons, Daki and Gyutaro, in the Entertainment District Arc.

Up to this point in the anime, Zenitsu has maintained his fighting style. However, things take a turn during the Infinity Castle Arc in the Demon Slayer manga.
In the midst of his battle against Kaigaku, the new Upper Moon six, Zenitsu undergoes a dramatic transformation, overcoming his fears and mastering the art of combat while remaining fully conscious.
Zenitsu vs. Kaigaku marks Zenitsu overcoming his fear of demons
Kaigaku was once a demon slayer and shared the role of successor to the former Thunder Hashira, Jigoro Kuwajima, with Zenitsu Agatsuma. Despite being Zenitsu's senior, Kaigaku belittled him for his cowardice. This led to Kaigaku harboring deep resentment towards both Zenitsu and their master, who favored Zenitsu despite his shortcomings.
After facing the powerful Upper Moon, Kokushibo, Kaigaku made the choice to transform into a demon in order to avoid the inevitable death that awaited him as a demon slayer. Taking on the role of Upper Moon Six following the deaths of Daki and Gyutaro, Kaigaku's decision had significant consequences for the protagonist Zenitsu, as shown in chapter 144 of the manga. The battle between Zenitsu and his former comrade and current sixth Kizuki, Kaigaku, served as a catalyst for Zenitsu to overcome the timidity that had held him back in the past.

Driven by the sorrow of losing his master, who chose to commit seppuku and suffered a painful death at the hands of a disciple turned demon, Zenitsu, for the first time, confronted Kaigaku without succumbing to fainting or falling asleep. Crucially, during the entire battle, he showed no sign of fear towards the demon, an Upper Moon at that.
Zenitsu Agatsuma claimed victory over Kaigaku by devising a new breathing technique during their showdown - the seventh form of Thunder Breathing, which he named Honoikazuchi no kami, also known as the flaming thunder god.
This fight signified the transformation of the old, timid Zenitsu Agatsuma who once quivered at the mere thought of demons. Following this encounter, he emerged as a hero and formidable demon slayer.
