Summary
Rebel Moon star Ed Skrein describes the film as "like Star Wars, but with violence, sex, and swearing."
Skrein portrays Admiral Atticus Noble, a formidable ally of the main antagonist, Regent Balisarius. The movie was initially conceptualized as a sophisticated interpretation of Star Wars but underwent a transformation to create its unique science fiction universe.
Rebel Moon star Ed Skrein, who portrays the antagonist Admiral Atticus Noble, hints at Zack Snyder's latest Netflix film as an explicit version of Star Wars. The grand two-part space saga revolves around Kora, a rebel leader (played by Sofia Boutella), who opposes a tyrannical ruling power. Originally intended as a mature reimagining of the Star Wars franchise, Lucasfilm ultimately rejected Snyder's concept. Undeterred, the director transformed his ideas into a unique sci-fi universe. While Rebel Moon will be rated PG-13, there are also plans for R-rated extended editions.
Prior to the highly anticipated release of Rebel Moon on December 22, Screen Rant had the opportunity to visit the set of Snyder's epic science fiction masterpiece. During their visit, they engaged in a conversation with lead performer Ed Skrein. When asked to provide a summary of Rebel Moon, Skrein characterized it as "similar to Star Wars, but with a touch of violence, sexuality, and profanity." He continued by expressing his enthusiasm for the creation of an entirely original intellectual property, accompanied by the thrill of establishing a fresh and unexplored world. See his exact words below:
When people ask what I'm working on, I usually describe it as a blend of Star Wars elements with intense violence, explicit content, and profanity. When I first heard about it, I was immediately intrigued and eager to be a part of it. Nowadays, it's rare to come across new original content in a world that's become so formulaic. So, being involved in the development of a new universe felt like a remarkable opportunity. Personally, I have a preference for unconventional and underground art forms, so joining a massive commercial project with subversive tendencies was incredibly exciting for me.
Once I arrived on set, I realized that Zack, the director, shared my twisted mindset. It was surreal to witness his unconventional approach to filming. For example, during a dark scene, he mentioned bringing in the priestesses, and I couldn't believe it. But he was dead serious, and I thought, "Wow, we're actually doing this?" Seeing the final shot, I knew exactly the type of movie we were creating.
What To Expect From Rebel Moon's Villains
: This movie is the type that fills me with uncontainable excitement. And Noble, oh Noble, he's the kind of character that makes me think, "Wow, what a dream." When I first laid eyes on the script, I exclaimed, "Is this the dream role?" It's an aspiration for me, and it would be for anyone. I must admit, it has been an extraordinary journey bringing him to life. The moment I started reading, I immediately thought, "I understand this perfectly. This is my calling. I have been preparing for this my whole life."Ed Skrein, known for his villainous role in Deadpool, portrays one of the two antagonists in Rebel Moon. Fra Fee, famous for his portrayal of Hawkeye, takes on the role of the main antagonist, Regent Balisarius, the oppressive ruler of the Imperium army that has governed the galaxy for many years on the Mother World. Assuming Balisarius played a part in the assassination of the king, it is evident that he is a ruthless dictator. As Rebel Moon initially began as a pitch for Star Wars, there is speculation that Balisarius was originally intended to be the character Darth Vader.
