In The Flash, director Andy Muschietti pays tribute to the Snyderverse trilogy by building upon Zack Snyder's Justice League.
Reports from insiders suggest that the Muschietti siblings watched the Snyder cut and were impressed, leading to changes in The Flash to align with Snyder's vision. This included the introduction of Ezra Miller's Barry Allen as Snyder had initially envisioned. While some Snyderverse scenes were ultimately removed by James Gunn, Muschietti still makes it clear that he honors Snyder's contributions to The Flash.
Warner Bros. confirmed that the production designer for The Flash was tasked with creating a visual language that connects the worlds of Tim Burton's BATMAN and Zack Snyder's JUSTICE LEAGUE. Patrick Tatopoulos, who worked on Justice League and Batman v Superman, was also present at the Snyderverse Full Circle event.
The DCEU films that followed Justice League failed to acknowledge or explore the overarching story established by Snyder, which was not the case with previous films like Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman. However, due to the introduction of Barry Allen in Justice League, Andy Muschietti had to choose between Joss Whedon's or Snyder's version for his adaptation. It has now been confirmed that Muschietti went with Snyder's version, as evidenced by various references in The Flash trailers that were only present in the Snyder Cut, such as the meeting of Barry Allen and Iris West, Flash's ability to time travel, the same Batcave, and the use of Batman's flying fox vehicle. The Flash not only differs from the theatrical cut of Justice League in the characterization of Barry Allen but also in aesthetic choices deeply rooted in the Snyderverse. Several Snyderverse fans who have seen The Flash have praised the film for respecting Snyder's DCEU characterization. For those who are fans of the Snyderverse, The Flash could be the last DCEU film to pay homage before the DCU reboot, making it even more exciting.
The Flash will hit theaters on June 16, 2023.
