Zack Snyder Expresses Willingness to Return to SnyderVerse on Netflix

Zack Snyder remains committed to the SnyderVerse and would eagerly revive it on Netflix if given the chance, dispelling any doubts about his loyalty to DC

Zack Snyder has not abandoned DC. If given the chance to revive the SnyderVerse on Netflix, he would eagerly accept it. After successfully adapting "300" and "Watchmen" in an adult manner, Snyder took on the role of shaping DC's future, beginning with "Man of Steel." His version of Superman, following Christopher Nolan's work, brought about a new era for the character, which led to a clear divide and upheaval in the franchise.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was not a resounding success, but it set the stage for Snyder to direct Justice League, the first on-screen team-up of DC’s superhero icons. The film faced challenges due to Joss Whedon’s alteration of Snyder’s vision. Despite initial criticism and doubts, the director’s cut was released four years later, receiving positive reception.

As we near the end of 2024, the DCEU as we know it is coming to a close with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Nevertheless, there is still widespread support to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse, and Snyder himself is open to the idea.

Zack Snyder would continue the SnyderVerse on Netflix

During a recent interview about Rebel Moon, Snyder was questioned about his response if Netflix acquired the rights to the SnyderVerse. "If Netflix had control over the DC characters in my expanded universe, I would definitely... absolutely. Yes. Without a doubt.”

The potential for this to happen is uncertain, with no indication that it will occur and uncertainty regarding its feasibility. Despite Warner Bros licensing several titles to Netflix for 2023, including Ballers, Band of Brothers, and Six Feet Under, the prospect of continuing an offshoot universe under a different studio is a distinct matter.

Scott Stuber, Netflix's head of film, recently expressed to The Hollywood Reporter that this is a "tricky" concept due to the lack of ownership.

This hashtag is definitely one of the weirdest I've seen, especially since there's no indication that Netflix or Zack have shown any interest in it. We've spoken about other things, and Zack seems content with what he's doing. We've had our conversations too.

Snyder's DC movies will likely be available on the streamer soon. "Obviously, we would like to license it at some point. We’d love to have it on so that fans can experience more Zack. The more Zack we have, the better we are," Stuber added. However, we could be waiting a while for the resurrection of the SnyderVerse. James Gunn also responded to the movement earlier this year, tweeting: "I have to say, this has got to be the wackiest hashtag ever since 1) Netflix hasn’t expressed any such interest (although we’ve discussed other stuff) & 2) Zack hasn’t expressed any interest & seems to be happy doing what he’s doing (and, yes, we too have talked)."

As a Gen Z fan, I am thrilled by the possibility of Zack Snyder returning to the SnyderVerse on Netflix. Snyder's unique vision for the DC universe has captivated audiences, and his director's cut of Justice League proved that his original intentions for the franchise were truly remarkable. The #RestoreTheSnyderVerse movement has gained immense momentum, and it's exciting to see Snyder himself expressing willingness to continue his work.

However, I understand that the feasibility of this revival is uncertain, given the complex rights issues involved. Netflix licensing Snyder's DC movies would be a significant step, but continuing an offshoot universe under a different studio presents challenges. I hope that Warner Bros. and Netflix can find a way to collaborate and bring Snyder's vision to life once again. The passion and dedication of the fans deserve to be rewarded, and I believe that Snyder's return to the SnyderVerse would be a monumental event in the world of superhero cinema.
